I rarely read any "self help" books any more, because you're absolutely right, If we try to fulfill all the self-help steps of those books we will be breaking up with our significant others, quitting our jobs, locking our children in their rooms, and eating only carrots and celery.

Only the easy ones. Like when the pastor preached on God fighting for you when your luck is down. Then as soon as I talked to someone after service who was sick or had a sick relative or looked like they were about to be sick, I could say, "God's fighting for you man!"
