GazetteOnline.com : State looks to close one of four mental health institutions in Iowa

LET'S LOOK AT THE FACILITY IT SELF. THESE ARE HUGE ENERGY WASTING BUILDINGS THAT ARE COSTING TAX PAYERS MEGA MONEY. I AGREE THAT MENTAL HEALTH IS ALWAYS PUSHED TO THE BACK BURNER. IF THEY REORGANIZED AND MOVED TO A MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT FACILITY THEY MAY BE ABLE TO HANDLE MORE PATIENTS. tHE DAY OF 1200 PATIENTS IS LONG GONE FOR THE MHI. THAT IS WHAT IT WAS BUILT FOR LONG AGO. 95 PATIENTS IN THAT SIZE OF BUILDING IS CRAZY. THAT IS A DROP IN THE BUCKET COMPARED EVEN TO JUST 20 YEARS AGO. THE CITY OF INDEPENDENCE BETTER STEP UP AND COME UP WITH A SOLUTION OR YOU WILL LOSE THESE JOBS.

any one can walk into an emergency room and get treated. who pays it is the real problem. Most illiegals do get treatment thanks to the doctors who went into medicine to treat people. The illegals are human too. The doctors /hospital just don't get paid for it. In Iowa there are programs for the illegal alien to get emergency services. It is for three days only in a month. EMERGENCY SERVICES ONLY!

KCRG : Humane Society Board President Speaks Out After Last Week\'s Firings | KCRG-TV9 Cedar Rapids, Iowa |

Anyone that signed the paper saying they did not agree with the way this new man that came in was going to handle things and went to the news media , was fired. He has no business being in that position... A good leader would not have done this. He would have come in and worked with the veteran staff. From what I understand he is big into euthanizing . Saves money!!!! always the bottom line....

GazetteOnline.com : VIDEO: Harkin talks health care in Linn County

Has anyone really listened or read the bill proposed? We finally have some one who is TYRING to get the health care system straightend out. It may not be the best but it is a step in the right direction. To do nothing is not acceptable anymore.... The insurance companies have raped the American people. They are picking and choosing who they want and drop who they don't want as quick as they can. A few laws need to be put in place to stop the ins. companies from being able to do this. I am not complaining just making a statment of a problem with private insurance. Once a person loses their job and cobra is offered most people can't afford it. This is what we need to get fixed.... We would all love to have private health insurance. It is just not affordable. instead of people going to these informative meetings upset and complaing about what might be done, they need to come with solutions!!!! Give our senators something viable to take back to DC.

GazetteOnline.com : Should bicyclists be banned on county roads?

YES. Motor vehicles pay a fee for license plates every year to drive on these roads. Ihere are so many bicyclist on the roads why not start making them pay a fee also. . With enough money collected maybe a bike lane could be supported/ built along the ditches or sides of the roads as in other countries do....
