no scam , recycle any and all electronics at the solid waste agency, free to you (includes clock radios, portable phones, vcr/dvds, etc.) Another recycling options for ANYTHING computer related is Goodwill Industries and their ReBoot Program - greater good comes from recycling anything computer related with Goodwill rather than the landfill.

refreshing to see creative thought in process. why is it met with such resistance and negativity? are the pianos hurting anyone (well maybe if I sat down to play), but otherwise, it sounds fun and I'm sure will bring joy to more than a few folks.

ground shingles are used as part of a mixture when making asphalt - it is not straight shingles on the road. DOT allows Recycled Asphalt Shingles or "RAS" mix be no more than 5% of the entire mix. please consider doing a quick internet search for "RAS" to learn more about this road base.

GazetteOnline.com : Shingles will find new life as road material

They grind the shingles (removing metal during grinding process) then use it as an ingredient in asphalt paving to replace virgin petroleum products. It is called Recycled Asphalt Shingles or RAS for short in the asphalt biz. The Iowa DOT has released a specification approving the use of recycled shingles, up to 5% of the mix, for asphalt roads / parking lots, etc. This process is not "grind the shingles and lay them down as is." Check out Missouri and Minnesota DOT efforts - they use tons of it, at a significant cost savings, allowing them to pave more (do more) with their road funds - quite a concept!

KCRG : Spring Cleaning Fills Up Landfills at Linn County Solid Waste Agency | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa

If there is one message to "get out of this" story - rethink trash is as good as any. How about don't throw away hazardous chemicals - you can recycle them for free at the Solid Waste Agency, but you need an appointment. Before you visit the landfill - is there anything else that can be done with what you want to throw away - instead of burying your trash. That's what I got out of "it" anyways...

GazetteOnline.com : Fees increasing for garbage, yard waste pickup in Cedar Rapids

Two things: 1) All residents of Cedar Rapids Linn County can get FREE compost, anytime the compost facility is open. No landscapers permit or whatever is needed to pick-up FREE compost. AND 2) The Agency does not receive ANY tax dollars - all operating dollars comes from those who landfill garbage. Landfill less = pay less.
