That's funny, as I was looking at the STEC chart again today after re-reading your last post and saying to myself "Gee - this kinda looks like a BUY here!!". Hopefully we'll see a nice oversold bounce next week! I subscribe to the @DonHarrold philosophy when buying more shares of something - treat it like a separate position instead of thinking of it as "averaging down" and manage it separately. E.g. think about taking off the new shares just bought if the stock has a nice pop. --joe

STEC did get slammed down pretty hard, with some high-volume red bars, but it's chart looks like a "triple-bottom" and could actually turn bullish (unless it breaks below the "triple-bottom" to form a lower-low). Are we still in this name? --joe

TDI Managed Growth Strategy : BUY: MercadoLibre (MELI)

Looks good! I would have given it an even looser stop (and even smaller share size). My stop would have been 23, just at the last "higher low" as it can still go down to near that level and make a new "higher low" and still be in an uptrend. --joe

TDI Managed Growth Strategy : How Can We Better This Site?

My recommendation is to stick with trade ideas and trade explanations (and performance) on the private blog and put the macro analysis posts on your public blog. You can even "tease" the picks on your public blog. I also agree with John above. --joe

TDI Managed Growth Strategy : Some thoughts on Caterpillar's Earnings

I like the Japanese version, Komatsu, KMTUY, and I've swing traded it before for a nice gain. The Chinese are more likely to buy earth movers locally than importing them from us. Here is my recent chart analysis: http://chart.ly/x5bng5 I like it on a breakout, or (even better) a pullback that makes a "higher low". Also, if you create a "Volume by price" chart, you will see much support and not a lot of overhead resistance! --joe

TDI Managed Growth Strategy : Weekly Portfolio Update - July 10, 2009

$WTIC (Oil) is severely oversold here, and I'm looking for a bounce. This may cause a short-lived bounce in the markets as well. I would take all bounces as shorting opportunities. The daily charts on the SPX are saying we go higher, based on MACD and slow stochastics, but the weekly charts are pointing to much lower numbers. This also agrees with my thesis that we see a short-lived bounce. The 20-day EMA, currently at 903, just crossed below the 50-day MA, which is a bearish sign as well. Maybe we bounce up to the 20 and then we fail. Of course, we are also sitting on a major support level here, so if that fails right away, then cancel that bounce and prepare to die, market! :-o --joe

TDI Managed Growth Strategy : Natural Gas Pricing

UGH is right - but look at that volume - WOW!! I think the best trade is gonna be pairing the new 12-month nat-gas with the contango-loser UNG. Just look at how that worked out with USL (or DBO) vs. OIL (scroll back in time, to see it). Too bad I can't do that in my IRA account!! --joe

TDI Managed Growth Strategy : Clues to the Markets Next Move

Yeah, the VIX does look to be at a turning point, which points to another drop in the market. I've been profiting from it by trading VXX! The $SPX is at a major support level (900 area) right now. I feel we're gonna break below this and put in a significant "higher low". The 38% retracement from the recent highs to the 666 March low is at 847, the 50% retracement is at 813, and the 62% retracement is at 778. I say we see one of those levels before resuming the uptrend. --joe
