Well that means your phone was locked to ATT, and yes ATT do factory unlock phones, you need to give them a call to see if your phone is eligible for the unlock

well mate, sadly this is a case of, I should have read before i excitedly pushed the update button. If your phone was not factory unlocked, that would mean that you have succesfully upgraded your baseband, hence fried your unlock. Now what you could do is call the service provider your phone is locked to and see if for a fee they can factory unlock it.

well depends if you want your phone jailbroken or not, if you dont care about the jailbreak, then by all means update to ios6

Need anyone be reminded, ios6 is not jailbreakable yet, so think twice before you loan your phone to angry girlfriends, or pet goldfish, or accidently hit the upgrade button in itunes

When you restore, you will lose all your jailbreak information.
you will have to jailbreak your phone again and reinstall all cydia tweaks you had
make sure that you backup your phone first, right click on your phone in itunes and click backup phone
after restore your phone will ask you, set up as new or restore from backup. you can do the restore from backup and all your photos and contacts will come back

do the jailbreak first before the restore from backup.

many people say restore from backup affects your battery life, i dont find it to be the case personally.

also know that on ios5 icloud does sync your contacts as well.

personally i am still on ios5.0.1 and see no deen as of yet to go to 5.1, people are always trigger happy to upgrade, when there is no real benefit :D
