World In Conversation : How has your opinion changed on illegal immigration?- 119 Blog

Which is exactly the reason I do not support this illegal act, these people are in fact criminals when inside the United States without a green card or up to date visa. These people need to be deported to help solve our nation’s problems. We would save money by having them deported and it would certainly create more jobs for our own legal citizens. Our tax money would go towards more important things rather than helping pay for illegal immigrant’s education and beds in prisons. Illegal immigration is a thing that needs to be stopped or this country will only be in more trouble than it already is one day.

At the same time I believe they should still obey the countries laws just out of mere respect for the people here. At times it has to be hard, but as humans we all should respect each other more in my personal opinion, but that will probably never happen. I just cannot seem to put myself in an immigrants shoes as well as other people can so maybe that is the reason as to why I am still under the belief that they are wrongfully here. I don’t fault immigrants for what they do at all, but I am upset as to how they go about doing it. I don’t agree with people doing things illegally, it’s like cheating on a test or in a competitive game. I don’t condone cheating by anyone for any reason at all. Immigration is a problem in this country and it needs to be fixed because our country isn’t exactly in the best shape as it is, so illegal immigration into this country doesn’t help solve this problem, it only severely worsens it.

My opinion on illegal immigration really hasn’t changed much just because of this lecture. I mean I understand people wanting to better their lives and such, but when it comes to my families tax dollars paying for all these illegal people I don’t support it at all. My family came here and gained citizenship the right way and all these people doing now are doing it the wrong way. Sneaking around and jumping in trees, hiding in cars, swimming through rivers. It is all ridiculous and just absurd. It really isn’t that hard to gain citizenship into this country if you just respect the laws and go about it the right way. I am all for people bettering their lives and I admit if I was an outsider trying to get into this country I would do the same things they do now. I would sacrifice everything to better the lives of my children and grandchildren because in the end it would be worth it all. These people are the most unselfish people in this world and they work harder than most people in this country.

World In Conversation : What do you think about the telephone game and why does information travel that way?- 119 blog

Due to this developed idea we no longer have a focus on English as a language and we have created shortcuts to make it easier on ourselves while texting or chatting on the computer. This whole idea that is a part of making it easier on ourselves is only hurting us in the long run. Soon kids won’t learn to talk until a later age because the parents will rarely be talking in front of them as much. Texting and chatting on the computer have been very harmful to our society. I mean we rely on texting so much to get an idea across to one another and it isn’t even an effective form of communication. You can’t even exhibit emotion within texting, which I believe is half of a conversation. This idea eventually needs to be fixed and our society needs to be returned to older styles of communication and maybe one day people will begin to start listening to each other again through face to face communication.

Our society today as whole usually exaggerates stories or simply miss tell them which eventually leads to bad news and a false story or accusation. I truly believe when it comes to our society the telephone game was a great example of how miscommunication works in today’s world. We all at one time or another have been involved within the realm of miscommunication and it is almost impossible to escape in today’s world. I believe it is just the lack of listening during a conversation. I believe we as people have become less interested in face to face communication because of all the advancements in technology with cell phones, computers, and texting. We no longer have to rely on face to face communication to talk to one another, which is why miscommunication takes place. We as a society have developed an idea that face to face communication is now a hassle and is unnecessary, which is false.

I thought the telephone game was very interesting and I had actually never seen in used in that manner, using an entire story rather than using just a phrase or sentence. It just exemplifies that our society naturally shortens things up, which leads to miscommunication, and often happens in critical situations. The story was fairly complicated and it had to make it through 6 individuals I believe, and we all knew in the beginning that it would be a daunting task. The story was transformed in many ways and each individual had its own interpretation of it and they changed it accordingly. I noticed that even when the instructor allowed the other person to help with the retelling of the story that even that person who had originally told it couldn’t remember exactly what he or she said. It was funny to see how that miscommunication is vital and is a big problem in such an easy task. It makes me wonder sometimes if we as a society have just gotten lazier or just stop listening to people, which is very rude and I hope to not be true.

We are willing to sacrifice lives, innocent lives and we don’t think twice about it. We have stooped to a new low and I feel as if the United States is going to keep sinking in this world of unruly war and no one will be willing to help us out. This world is going in the wrong direction, you think by now with all the world wars and conflicts everyone has gone through, that the world would be striving for peace and unity, but in today’s society it seems as if everyone is finding something new they want, and they are more than willing to kill innocent people to obtain what they desire.

This feeling is also very hypocritical because we as a nation have done the same thing. We don’t take into account that the people in the Middle East go through the same thing we did when we experienced 9/11. We need to change the way we look at this world drastically because at this rate if we can’t provide a solid role model example for the rest of the world then who will? The United States are the superior power in the world according to most people and experts, yet we see ourselves coming up with equations that make us seem as low as all the 3rd world countries in the world that have no sense of feeling for other humans.

I feel the 29:1 statistic is appalling. It is the worst thing or equation I think I have ever heard. First off I don’t even know what kind of person can come up with such an equation. It’s almost as if we have lost all conscience of what it means to be human. We don’t realize that those 29 individuals have lives just like us and some maybe even more important and valuable than ours. Those 29 people could have the biggest impact on a community and we don’t even think twice about killing them or sacrificing them to kill the one we want. What if those individuals were children? What if they were actually American tourists just in the wrong place at the wrong time? How would we feel then? We mourn over the deaths of a few individuals in America and yet we are willing to take the innocent lives of 29 individuals to kill one person and it isn’t even a 100 percent thing? It is appalling that my country has forgotten what it means to be human and feel grief. Our country has lost all of its morals and we are supposed to be Christian. I think it is funny how we sit here and asked ourselves after 9/11 how they could be so radical and have no hearts when it came to innocent people.

I thought it was crazy that girls always feel the need to dress the way they do when they go out although I hope they don’t stop that because I find it amusing to make fun of them when its 10 degrees out, but I feel bad at the same time because they have it ingrained in their minds to impress guys and always have to fulfill societies norm of sexual appeal and other things. I have a new respect for women in general because they put up with a lot of shit from society and us guys will never realize what this does to them mentally and quite frankly I am glad I am a guy and don’t have to deal with all the bullshit that comes with having a vagina.

I also found it very enlightening to know that the majority of people on a college campus aren’t sexually active or experiencing hookups as we call it. That makes me have a brighter view on campus’s everywhere knowing that not everyone is falling into the norm of today’s society. Sex isn’t a bad thing at all when you have a serious girlfriend, but I don’t agree with it when it’s always a random hookup and alcohol is always necessary. I actually never knew the exact reason why girls would say no when it came to sex or other things, but now thanks to this class I have a better understanding of it all and I will keep this information in mind.

I would definitely have to say the information about the opposite sex was more enlightening. I always knew women and men responded differently to sex but I never knew it was that drastic. I thought it was interesting how only 1/3 of girls actually experience a climax for lack of a better phrase during sex. I thought it was also interesting how Sam and his wife brought up the point about everything being centered towards the male’s point of view about sex. I feel bad for women for having to think like that. Sam brought up many interesting ways to fix it but it is so ingrained in our society that it is nearly impossible to change that view point. The world would probably be better off if the world looked at sex differently. It was also a surprise to find out about the sexual assault information because I look back and not from experience but that just sounds like something that would most likely happen on a college campus all the time. It has to be stopped and again I feel bad for women because all they have to do is say no, yet I know some guys that just wouldn’t take no for an answer.

World In Conversation : What factors in your race make it difficult to date outside your race?- 119 Blog

Society would definitely be the major factor behind forcing me to not date someone of a different race but I know my family would be supportive if it meant I was happy because I am so fortunate to come from a well rounded and informed family that looks beyond race and embraces happiness. Not everyone has this and in those cases interracial relationships are very uncommon. When you have no support behind you from family, friends or even society in general it makes things nearly impossible. Maybe one day things will be reversed and interracial relationships will be the so called norm in life but until that day we have to live under the cloud of racism and society judging those who don’t follow the norms.

Society plays a huge roll in this because how many interracial relationships do you see on TV or in magazines, hardly any, but as Sam said in class interracial relationships are the fastest growing fad in America today. This means we will probably be seeing the interracial relationships being represented more and more in media eventually, but at the same time if they represent this fad in America it may cause sales to decline or TV ratings to go down. Society really looks down on this issue solely because of our very bumpy past with this issue. Slave and owner relationships were not common during slavery but when they did happen the white person was looked at like he was less than everyone else and in some cases worse than the blacks. I would definitely date someone of a different race if it meant I would be happy because that is the whole purpose of our lives and we are all the same in so many ways.

What factors in your race make it difficult to date outside your race? I believe the main factor or reason at which why people of the white race don’t date outside the race is mainly due to the pressure of society and within our own race. I personally wouldn’t have a problem with dating a person of a different color but people around me might which would cause me not to date someone of a different race just because it would be extra work. People do things in this world that are totally based off of people’s reactions. We do things to get noticed or get positive attention. I can’t think of many instances where someone did something to gain negative attention from people or a group. Negative things will only come from an interracial relationship someone in the family will disagree or look down on you and it isn’t right at all. You should be free to choose who you date or do anything for that matter.

I feel as if people talk about these stereotypes just because they have no other choice they just feel as if they have no decision or can’t form their own opinion on the matter at hand. One day maybe the world will take the stereotypes and racism out of the media and we can all live as equals and have a better life. The media forms opinions for us as young adults and it definitely shapes the way we look at the world and society. We look at people differently just based on what we see in the news or in cartoons or on TV show. It has to stop eventually because it seems there is no hope for future generations at the rate racism is actually fighting its way back into society.

Crimes with black people involved are more likely to be talked about then a crime where a white man did something unethical. Kids stand no chance as long as the media portrays race in the worst ways possible. They learn to be biased at a young age and it is disgusting for a 3 year old to state that white skin is better than black skin. Kids will always pick the white doll as the so called “good” doll until they have a chance to form their own opinions in their life instead of the media and even their parents making those decisions for them. Parents talk about the stereotypes and it is not good for society.

Black and White Dolls Video I have seen the video before and I am so surprised at the results of it and how much the media and just society as a whole plays a role in developing our own judgments of people and races at such a young age. Those kids are realizing the stereotypes of the world at such a young age and it is something people should be more aware of. As we discussed in class about how the media and cartoons play a role in shaping these stereotypes. It is so true in my soc section we discussed even shows that middle aged people watch like the Cosby show and things of this nature. There were not many sitcoms about successful black families and usually in white sitcoms it kind of made blacks seem inferior or less than white people. The news is the worst when it comes to representing the black community. They almost seem to pick an uneducated person or something to represent them even though there are many successful black people in this world and while on the subject there are many poor white people in this world and that is never discussed among people or in the news.

As for now though I think most people that are aware of the issue of slavery do feel guilt and I am sure some feel none because they feel as if their problems out weigh any problems of foreign countries. We need to educate people when it comes to the issues of slavery and foreign affairs. If people knew about these issues it would have a large scale effect on us as a country when it comes to people worrying about money because compared to other people in third world countries most lower class people here would be considered well off or wealthy. Once people are aware of this issue it will lead to more guilt and a greater effort to fix the issues other countries have when it comes to slavery.

It is a problem that needs to be addressed eventually and I don’t think it can ever be fixed unless we can somehow inspire people to watch the news and be concerned about other people all the way across the world that they will probably never meet. Its hard to make people aware of world issues when they are so focused on the issues they have on their own backs. When it comes to the lower economic class in the united States most of them have no idea about slavery in foreign countries. Slaves in other countries do exist and I feel like most people don’t realize how big of an issue it really is for this world. People here in the United States feel guilt when it comes to slavery. If people were more aware of the issue then I am sure people would feel more guilt about the issue and there would be a greater effort to fix the problem at hand.
