This was a tragic accident, no doubt about it. Why does AmTrak travel at such excessive speeds in City Limits, where population is greater? 70 MPH? 99 E is only 45 MPH for automobiles. It may have given the passengers more time to exit the vehicles had the train been traveling at a slower speed. Hopefully KATU asks this question to AmTrak. There is no reason to travel at 70 MPH where automobiles, pedestrians, and children are present.
