But so would wolves. They would be a severe threat to livestock and Missouri is one of the top states for Beef production. I would love to see the magnificent elk strolling across Missouri but I also feel that in the long run it would be devastating for the farmers. Maybe they could relocate them to a location with less agriculture. Everyone in America has to eat and in order for that to happen a farmer has to produce whatever that food may be. But I know of many good clean kennels that are all being lumped into this "puppy mill" catagory. But if you are going to "educate" the public you need to know some facts about dogs. First of all dogs do not come into season but once and on some occasions twice a year. The heat cycles will run between 6-12 months apart depending on the dog. Majority of dogs will cycle around 8-10 months inbetween. Their gestation period is 63 days give or take a few days. This is how long they are pregnant with the puppies. So it is not possible for dogs to be pregnant or nursing puppies all the time. Most dogs will naturally wean their puppies on their own around 6-8 weeks of age. This initiative they are wanting to pass will not affect the unlicensed unfit kennels that so need to be put out of business but it will put the good licensed breeders out of business that are already abiding by the USDA laws put into place. So with that said I do not think I could vote for more government control over our lives. They cannot seem to run the government effeciently the way it is.
