The military quickly accomplished their mission with minimal casualties and then the politicians stepped in with their grand idea of delivering the gift of Western Liberalism and democracy to a mostly traditional tribal Muslim society. The proper strategy would have been to garrison a couple of Saddam's large airbases in the desert and control the whole Gulf area without the need to kowtow to the locals. The politicians picked the stupidest plan of scattering your forces throughout Iraq with no logical mission, restrictive rules of engagement, and merely provided targets of opportunity to the Jihadists resulting in unnecessay high casaulties to American forces. The catastrophe of this American defeat in Iraq is responsible for the recent upheaval in the Middle East and will surely quickly lead to a major war involving Israel.
