KY3 : Child dies in family pool | KY3 News, Weather, Sports - Springfield, MO | Local News

I just want to say that this would be all too easy to happen if there were no gates around the pool and fence. I have a dog with a medical condition and have to be cautious about making sure all gates are shut. A small child could easily operate a gate though. Perhaps childproof locks need to be in order for us all. And, you don't have to be wealthy to own a pool. Mine is an above ground, 27 ft. Got it on sale without paying a fortune. Even small blow up pools are drowning concern.

Also, to any college grads thinking about applying for a State job. Please realize that it is much more than a job. You may work yourself to death, but it something happens on your watch, you will not be supported by the State. Individuals can sue you for damages and the State won't even provide you with an attorney. I never personally experienced this, but have seen it happen. The laws have to change.

Coming from a retired(27 yrs) DFS Social Worker.....I know how this happened. The State wants everything down on paper so to speak. Giving quality services is the least of priorities. Everything must be documented....by the time all of that is done, there is no time to actually visit homes and monitor situations. Only the lawmakers of Missouri can change this. I got out because of all of the BS. I wasn't allowed to provide the services that needed to be provided. But, If a child were to die in my caseload, I would be the one with my feet held to the fire. The DFS employees do their best. It is an overwhelming job. The State prevents workers from actually doing casework. We need to get back to accountability and protection within DFS. I understand the Gov't cutbacks, but only the children suffer. If we got out of Iraq, we would have enough money to really provide protection to our kids. I am just sayin..........I have been there, did my best, but couldn't handle the government BS any longer. Write your State Reps and Congress people. That is the only way things are ever going to change.

My GOD, can you not read or write? Your post is horrific to say the least. I suppose because you have no education, or are messed up in some way. I too have feelings about this alleged "drawing" as I feel it is rigged.Yeah, the drawing "happened" tonight, but yet they had footage of her Katrina house and such. I am not a fool. What I said initially, I believe is true. They will not give it to an uneducated, piece of crap person, welfare family and the like. They made it look mighty good though by giving it to a person hard hit by Katrina. A doctor no less. What are the chance of that happening in the "real" world? None

Just wondering here. What if they chose someone who is a lazy piece of crap, never worked a day in their life, has been on public assistance forever, let's their yard grow up to the heavens, has a car on blocks in front of their trailer house.....etc. How would they deal with that? Give it to them anyway. Or, a bunch of meth freaks, child molesters, and the like. I know they must have to check folks out before showing up. I am happy for the woman who won, don't get me wrong. She lived through Katrina and needs a medal. Just wondering the rest of the story.

Or, another idea is to buy a real, living tree with a root ball. Just plant it outside when Christmas is over and you can enjoy it for many years to come. I have done this for almost 25 years and just love it. I feel kind of like I am saving a tree and giving back to the environment. Just and idea.

KY3 : Parents consider school boycott of Obama speech | KY3 News, Weather, Sports - Springfield, MO | Loca

Why was is ok for other Presidents to speak to our nation's youth, but not President Obama? With all of the outrage you would think that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was going to address our youth regarding uranium enrichment! I fully well know that Medicaid and Medicare are huge expenditures. I do also firmly believe that those who do not have employer sponsored healthcare, are denied coverage by private companies, or cannot afford private insurance should be given the chance to have some kind of health coverage. Try having a cancer diagnosis or type II diabetes and see how far you get trying to obtain coverage. It WON'T happen. We need to stop the "Medicaid Gold" business when people run to the ER for something minor. We also need to revamp disibility determining requirements. President Obama's intentions are honorable. Atleast he is addressing the problem rather than pretending it doesn't exist. I believe that any president should be allowed to address students. God knows they need all of the encouragement they can receive to stay in school.

What is next? Will our teachers have to present an outline of what they will be saying in class? Do we question our kids everyday as to what his or her teachers told them? will gladly choose to NOT show a Presidential video because of what our President might say? What the heck is going on? Do we live in such a right wing better than Thou place where we can dictate to the rest of the world? I hope not.. Also, let us NOT teach sex education so that all young girls can become pregnant before they can drive because they simply didn't know responsibility or prevention ! Let us also totally outlaw abortion so that those girls can ruin their lives due to a one night stand mistake. You who protest what I have spoken of do not know, or have not been in the trenches so to speak. Our healthcare system has been eaten up with paying for Medicaid benefits to unwed mothers and their children. The fathers' go free most of the time and live to reproduce another day.. President Obama DOES have some promising ideals. Let us give him a chance. Can he possibly do any worse than the last eight years that we have endured? If he does, then May God help us all.
