I saw The Help . Still want to see The Artist. I'm not certain what else was nominated - sorry. I just had little interest this year.

Didn't watch but got an early birthday gift when I saw the following on Big Hollywood' s major stories:CLOONEY LOSES! I was so happy I yelled and did a happy dance in my living room. Just thrilled to see that self-centered, smug, nasty piece of **** got kicked to the curb. Oh I know he'll be back from the "dead" way sooner than I'd like, but for this Kentuckian (KY being the home state of Rosemary Clooney, Georgy-Porgy's late aunt), the announcement was SWEEEET!!! Oh and I spent Oscar night watching 'Batman Begins' on DVD.

Big Hollywood : 'Rebecca' (1940) Blu-ray Review: Hitchcock's Classic American Debut Arrives on Blu-ray

It IS Mrs. Danvers -- a character I've always said would send Darth Vader to a corner and have him drawing up into a fetal position to whimper. Why Judith Anderson didn't win an Oscar for that role is beyond me, but she definitely brought it to life (I'd read the book years before I saw the movie).

I DID cheer when she died. I'm just sorry Oliver didn't shove a gun in his mouth and pull the trigger...which would then have made it an awesome movie. Take that "Love means never having to say you're sorry." Needless to say I hate this movie. I hate this movie. I HATE THIS MOVIE.

Big Hollywood : Daily Call Sheet: Why Studios Hate Streaming and America Doesn't Care About Sundance or '30 Rock'

I was discussing that with a friend of mine, who likely heard me screaming (from several hundred miles away) when I saw that episode. I guess it shouldn't have surprised me, but it did. The idea of a leader of a free nation having to ask the permission of the UN (for anything) just turned my stomach every which way.

I must living in another universe. Had BH not had this article as a headline, I wouldn't have known the Golden Globes were on. Darn. And here I have my off day planned by watching episode 2 of Downton Abbey's second season; squeezing in a couple of episodes of 'The Big Band Theory' since I became a fan a couple of months ago; watching some of season 1 of my Rawhide DVD's (Christmas gift), and squeezing in the movie 'Ironclad'. And doing my laundry. Guess this means passing on the Golden Globes. Darn again.

Make me the secnod person who thinks George Clooney always plays George Clooney. I've never been a fan. We're not talking about since I found out his political views, I'm talking since E.R. so we're going back years. I liked him in that one movie he did with J-Lo (that was years ago too), but that's probably it. The man is so insufferable, so smug that...well, never mind. I think I got my point across. And to this day, I will always remember how his dad Nick -- formerly of AMC -- ran for Congress in eastern Kentucky, and arrogrant father and arrogant son tried to show the supposedly ignorant Kentuckians of the district how wonderful it would be to have such "superiors" lording over them. Nick headed back to Hollywood with his tail between his legs after being whipped like the proverbial red-headed stepchild. I don't think I've seen Daddy Clooney since. I'm only sorry the son can't vanish too.But that's just me.

Big Hollywood : BBC's 'Sherlock': Season Two Stunning Opener

Started watching the series when it first hit Netflix about a year ago on DVD (before I gave up my Netflix membership). I really enjoyed it and liked the way they eased the original Doyle stories into the 21st century, as well as thinking that both Cumberbatch and Freeman were a worthy Holmes and Watson. The stories kept me thinking; the acting was spot-on; the dialogue was fresh and intelligent. I've enjoyed Downey Jr. and Law as well -- on the level intended, but this latest BBC series has become a favorite (along with Downton Abbey).

Big Hollywood : 'In the Name of the King 2' Review: Lundgren Enters Boll's Bad Movie Dungeon

"In the Name of the King" was the first (and as far as I know) last Uwe Boll movie I've ever seen. I only rented it because I figure Jason Statham would give me a few decent action moments. I laughed through the whole thing, especially when Burt Reynolds and Ray "Remember Me? I was in Good Fellas" Liotta appeared. Ten minutes or less after the movie ended, I'd forgotten the whole thing. But all in all, it was a good "bad" movie that' would be perfect for MST3000. I won't be bothering with ItNotK2. And I'm like a couple of the others posters here -- who the heck finances the movies? Is it Boll? Do they make a profit? And could Boll have made better Star Wars prequels than George Lucas? (Had to ask).

OT: but when I was entering the theater yesterday I did a double-take on seeing a poster declaring that "Star Wars Chapter 1: The Phantom Menace" is coming next spring -- in 3-D. I guess it's too much to hope that it'll be a brand new movie complete with a new screenplay, new actors (well, I can deal with Neeson and McGregor), a new director, a new direction in plot and NO JAR-JAR BINKS. Yeah, that's WAY too much to hope. I'm pretty sure I also heard that Cameron is re-releasing "Titanic" in 3-D. Not sure if that's accurate, but if so, this trend is starting to wear on my nerves.

The trailer for the next Dark Knight movie ran before Sherlock Holmes 2 -- it was the ONLY trailer to get my full attention after I settled into my seat. I vaguely remember a Men In Black 3 one (after a few unmemorable flicks, Will Smith must be seeking something relatively safe) and something called Battleship (like the game???). Anyway, was going to say that I saw Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows at an afternoon showing yesterday -- with the theater pretty much full -- while here in San Antonio TX on vacation. I was pleasantly surprised at the nearly sold-out house. The movie was what I had hoped for and never really felt like a sequel.to me, but it's own stand-alone movie (with a couple of exceptions). I thought it well-written, clever and well-acted; there are a few plot points that hit me this morning and last night so I'll definitely rent it when it comes to video in order to catch what I missed. Not saying I want or need a third, but it made for a great way to spend a couple of hours without lowering my IQ. *g*

Big Hollywood : 'Tora! Tora! Tora!' Blu-ray Review: Epic Filmmaking Worthy of Its Subject

I had grandparents who lived through WWII and they often told me about Pearl Harbor and the period itself so it was one of the things that put me on the road to becoming a history buff. Funny that at work this morning, I actually commented that it was Pearl Harbor Day; most didn't remember, and I told a co-worker that there are two dates that always stick in mind (other than dates like Christmas) -- December 7th and June 6th. Anyway, I saw Tora, Tora, Tora on TV when I was a kid and I just loved it so I'm looking forward to seeing it again.I also remember -- in a moment of insanity -- deciding to see the long-winded "Pearl Harbor" with Ben Affleck. While I loved the scenes of the Japanese planning as well as the handling of the attack, the rest of the mess surrounding it....Well, I'll be fair -- I don't remember much of it except that when (early on) it was announced that Ben's character (who had joined the RAF) was dead, the packed theater I was in burst out in applause. THAT'S when you know you've lost the audience! And I felt bad that so many of the audience were of WWII age; what a disappointment for the ones that lived it.

Now THAT I never realized so Mr. Carter's little slam backfired when it came to me. I'm not surprised by his attitude or his subtle way of dropping in his opinion -- figures. I just never saw it as he obviously intended, and I guess I'm not the only one as I used to ectalk X-Files all the time years ago and none of us caught Chris Carter's slam either. Oh well. Too bad I'm not as brilliant as they are. *g* Seriously though, thanks for the insight. It's one reason I often skip the commentary -- I've had many a wonderful movie nearly ruined because of some writer or director or actor's idiot comments. (I say nearly because if I like something enough, I just ignore them anyway).

Always liked Dana before they screwed up the series (and the movies) with so much gobbledeegook that it didn't even feel like the same show (I quit watching a year or two before it ended). One thing I liked about her is despite her scientific logic, she proudly wore her crucifix, not like some unthinking rock star who likely has no clue of what it symbolises, but as someone who seemed a devout Catholic with faith in a modern world. It's been years since I've seen X-Files, but I don't remember the writers mocking her. And it made her three-dimensional being someone who was both a person of science, a person of faith and a strong intelligent woman who gave Muldaur a run for his money. But then, that's why I liked those first seasons of the show.

Mr. Averich -- I always love your articles so thank you for a beautiful memorial to someone who sounds like a true star even if she never got to be a "star" (as we'd know it). I saw Flesh and the Devil a few years ago when many of Garbo's silent movies were released to DVD. I wondered who that lovely "other woman" was and why the Gilbert character was too silly to realize he was throwing his life away with both hands by fooling about with Garbo's adulteress "heroine". Anyway, other than Flesh and the Devil, which of Miss Kent's other movies are on DVD? I'd love to try to catch them, especially since quite a few Harold Lloyd movies should be in release.
