I've mentioned it before but one of the things I realised about this series is that almost all queer-coded Discworld characters get explicitly happy endings.

The ladies of XXXX have their bar and pink beer, Lofty and Tonker have a lot of money and have destroyed the building they hate. Jackrum has a family and the knowledge that his little lads and lasses are spread far and wide. Dwarves are fully embracing fashion and the ability to express their gender.

The only exception to this is Dee from Fifth Elephant and even there Vimes' POV tells us that she is too valuable as an administrator for anything bad to happen to her.

I'd always assumed that Tawnee had let Nobby go and his excuses about cooking were menant to keep this hidden from colon

On the one hand you are absolutely right, Nobby is not actively doing anything bad and has shut down Colon when he was being a dick about Tawnee.

On the other hand Tawnee isn't a cookie to be handed out for meeting a minimum standard of behaviour, she's a person who deserves autonomy in her dating life, which means that she needs to understand that if she wanted to she could actually have a dating life.

They're not telling her to dump Nobby, they're just explaining that Nobby is not her only option.

I think I would object more if the intoxicating substances weren't being added to already intoxicating brews.

Also Nanny Ogg has been giving unsuspecting people slugs of scumble (aka "mostly apples") ever since the start of the witches books.

In terms of the accent, it reminded me of a Billy T James sketch (Billy T James was an awesome māori comedian who left a lasting impact on the kiwi comedy scene)

Apologies for the facebook link, it's the only place I could find this sketch.

Orange election guy appears at the start of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JamSJ_yguqc

He's pretty much the orange version of the Greendale human bean

This book also makes clear that trolls have 5000 years worth of culture and in past books we've been told about their view of the passing of time (that it is backwards rather than forwards) and we've met a subset of trolls who can hit pause and redo multiple times to avoid dying.

Oh and we know that there were weird sexual rumours about dwarves (remember the man who wrote to the watch worrying because he had daughters).

The interesting thing about Doreen and Vimes is that they are both from the same street and Vimes is constantly sensitive to feeling like a class traitor, so not only does he hate vampires in general but having a fellow Cockbill Street kid attempting to bury her origins is getting on his nerves.

I strongly suspect that this is intentional

He's also dropping a proto libertarian in a very deep hole...
