GazetteOnline.com : Saturday's two deeps

At DT, remember that they've got a couple freshman coming in this year who have more than enough size to play right away in Iowa's system in Davis and Ferguson. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them make their mark during the year and negate the need to go the JuCo route. They certainly haven't been shy about playing young d-lineman in the past, and I think this last class was a big part of them preparing for life without Klug and Ballard.

GazetteOnline.com : Anthony Tucker for Kurt Alexander?

Lickliter didn't recruit most of the kids who have transferred. Also Jeff Peterson transferred to Arkansas, which, last I checked, is not a mid-major.

GazetteOnline.com : Stanzi: Love 'em, 'cuz you can't leave 'em

Love Ricky, but I don't buy the "we take lots of low percentage shots down the field" as his excuse for the INTs. I mean, that's true, but other than Indiana (where the wind kept holding them up) that's not where most of his INTs came. Most of them were on shorter routes, like the one in the Orange Bowl.

GazetteOnline.com : Bye, bye Bulaga?

He's definitely gone, and good for him. If you're a first rounder (and he is) then go. That's too much money to risk, and he seems to understand that. He had a great game, a great Iowa career, and will be a great pro.

GazetteOnline.com : Sunday recruiting update

Rouse's may have been, I don't remember. But I know there have been guys recently who took other visits or even decommitted (I'm thinking Reiff and the Praters, just off the top of my head) and kept their offers.

My understanding has always been that taking a visit to another school doesn't get your scholarship pulled, but it means that Ferentz and the staff no longer consider you to be committed and your spot won't be held anymore. That just means that they're going to start looking elsewhere as well to fill the spot, but it doesn't mean the door is totally closed. Also just a slight correction, but if Hoch is actually gone then Iowa is only at 19 commitments. Stephane N'goumou is no longer a commit.

GazetteOnline.com : Barta on the new football facility

GazetteOnline.com : My Heisman Ballot: 1. Gerhart, 2. Suh, 3. Spiller

Different season. Last year there were a bunch of QBs having historically great season, so Greene got lost in the shuffle. He'd easily have been a finalist in this field. Anyway, I'm fine with Gerhart winning, but the best player in college football this year was Suh. Best d-lineman I think I've ever seen, and he completely dominated every game for Nebraska. He also won the Big XII title game by himself, it was absurd. I don't think the credit hours at a demanding school thing should really matter. I mean, great for Gerhart and all (seriously), but the award is about on the field performance.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Bawinkle never shooting a free throw was one of my favorite basketball stats ever. I'm still bummed out that he eventually attempted a 2 pt shoot last year too.

GazetteOnline.com : Barta: Iowa undecided on '10 football ticket prices

Yeah, it was Recker's 2nd season. He was healthy, Evans was back, and the team was top 10 preseason. Then they got blown out by Duke in the ACC/Big Ten tourney, bombed in the Big Ten like they almost always did under Alford, and didn't even make the NCAAs (although Recker almost got them there by going nuts in the Big Ten Tourney). Iowa fans are really bandwagony about basketball, so everyone jumped on early when the team was supposed to be awesome.

Nice get, he reminds me a lot of Scott Chandler on film, I think he'll be a great fit at Iowa. I would guess this pretty much closes out the class, and assures that it'll be ranked in the Top 25. Very cool.

I'm pretty sure the third tiebreaker (after head to head and overall record, which wouldn't apply here) is highest ranked in the BCS. So Iowa couldn't be the champion in that scenario.
