This is a true story. I lived in a small town that had a terrible drug problem in the black community. The leaders of the community wanted to start a program to lift young kids out. They decided on a program that would include atheletes and business men of color. It was the early 1990's when Clarence Thomas had just been confirmed to the Supreme Court. The local NAACP fought to STOP Clarence Thomas from speaking to the youth! I will never forget this as long as I live. I was mortified. Instead they selected Ben Carson to speak, in part because he was a surgeon and not a conservative figure. I wonder how many more stories like this are out there.
