KCRG : Push For A Meeting After Recent Wellington Heights Incidents | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, S

I know this is nitpicking but I wish they'd get the streets and avenues correct. It was 14th Street and 4th Avenue that had the shooting...and I could be mistaken but the woman quoted probably lives on 15th Street near Mt. Vernon...not AVENUE because I don't think 15th Avenue is part of Wellington Heights. I'd like to know HOW a neighborhood can STOP the crimes??? Especially when weapons are involved. I told an officer about drug deals going down all the time right by the substation they put in and am told that the police department was short-handed and were aware of the problem but there wasn't much they could do unless they caught them in the act.

I recall the day I was on my way to work and had to stop for one of these inspections (by Taylor school). I had no idea what was going on ahead. I thought they were looking for an escaped criminal. If I had known, I would have gone a different way. I'm glad I didn't have to punch in to work or I probably would have been a few minutes late. Next time I see a bunch of squad cars, I'm going a different direction. My car had been crunched and the cover was broken over the turn signal and I was told to get it replaced. I never did. I put red tape over it...lol. Anyway, I wish they'd focus on the drug dealers. I see exchanges almost everyday IN THE HOOD.

That would be interesting. I had a post in here about this project but they didn't print it and I didn't use obscenity or anything. I just think this is not "DEMOCRATIC" to allow only the council to make this decision (about closing 2nd Ave). I think the entire community should have a say and vote on this.

I don't understand why only a few people get to vote on the decision to close or not to close 2nd Avenue. What happened to democracy? I don't think it's very representative to have nine people make this decision. It affects way more than the medical industry and the city council. It doesn't matter whether downtown is a retail hubbub or not. It is a vein that runs through to the other side of town and closing it is only going to put more people on First Avenue. Has no one tried going down First Avenue recently with all the construction? It's a big headache. I try to avoid it by using Third and Second. So much easier...not all the stopping ang going that occurs on First but now there's going to be no straight shot through no more without all the stop and go. It's going to be one big headache traveling in this town everyday. I'm really dreading this. I wonder why I see so much traffic coming from downtown on Third Ave at 4-5; how do they get to work if not on Second? I have a hard time getting onto Second and Third during work to/from rush times.

KCRG : Iowa Program Set To Recoup Court Fees, Fines | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weath

So...trying to understand here...if you have court fines that are over four years old, they won't come after you for them? Or put a warrant out for your arrest unless of course you "reinstate" the debt by paying on the old debt? They do that you know..put out a warrant on stupid unpaid fines. Let the druggies go but let's throw the guy in jail who gets caught driving w/o a license because he can't afford to pay his speeding fines because he has a family to feed.

I don't see what good can come of a business that is open beyond 2 a.m. that is "private". If he wants to open a 24-hour restaurant, then go for it but to include alcohol is only asking for trouble. In his case, alcohol, drugs, and guns seem to be on the menu. Not a good combo. I recall the days of wanting someplace else to go after the bars shut down but frankly, I think it's best just to go home or else work your energy off. We used to play tennis late at night after the bar closed.

Again, why? I'd prefer to know what they look like so I can cross the street if I see them. I've had a woman, actually two different women, try and flag me down as I was on my way to work early in the morning...I kept on driving of course, but it made me wonder why they were trying to flag me down. Yeah, desperation I guess. I would think that they would have no shred of self-respect by now to care if their pictures are in the paper or not given their profession of choice.
