Center for a Stateless Society : What Social Animals Owe to Each Other

Thank you. It still seems to me that one who lies to the Nazis is still "acting on a contradiction" -- simultaneously accepting and rejecting a tenet of being a good Nazi. He may have to construct a very elaborate, hard-to-keep-track-of rolling story. The only difference is that he has a justifiable cause. But I don't see how that avoids the internal problem.

I tried to make the NAP less nebulous by anchoring it in broader respect, which in turn is anchored in the conditions of flourishing. If I've failed, fine. But how have I failed?

Center for a Stateless Society : The Third Industrial Revolution: Not As Easy to Co-opt as the Second.

As I read this I thought of Bastiat's thesis (in Economic Harmonies) that freedom, competition, and technology will transfer wealth "from the private realm to the communal realm" as it substitutes "gratis utility" for "onerous utility."

Center for a Stateless Society : Opting Out of the State

Needless to say, if I favor the freedom to opt out of tax-funded activities, I favor the freedom to opt out of conscription. Taxation lies at the very foundation of the state--the draft board will want to be paid. Take that away and there's soon nothing left.

You might want to reread my last paragraph. I didn't make any grand pronouncements about what would happen if we could opt out, although I think the consequences would be more substantial than you suggest. For example, who will buy government bonds if the government has no power to compel the taxpayers to cough up money?

Center for a Stateless Society : Dr. Thomas Szasz interviewed by Sheldon Richman

I did this interview with Tom on July 15, 2005, at his home outside of Syracuse, NY. I wish the production values were a better, but nevertheless this video should be helpful to those who 1) admire Tom's important yet underappreciated work (even among libertarians) and 2) know little about his work and want to learn. My intention was to ask the questions curious onlookers would have asked. Enjoy!

Great point! One of Locke's arguments for government was that no one should judge his own case. He overlooked the fact that this would be the case with the state.

The land matter is serious, and a perfect example of corporatism in action. It is also driving peasants into the arms of Maoists, which be used to justify more oppression. Nice work.

The Freeman | Ideas On Liberty : Common Versus Government Property

DD, I'll publish any well-supported article that is useful and of interest to advocates of individual liberty, free markets, and peace, which is why I published Kevin Carson's article. You may find economic and sociological implications in an article that I don't find. I can't help that. By the way, I once worked for a libertarian magazine, Inquiry, that published Noam Chomsky's critiques of U.S. foreign policy. Murray Rothbard was a contributing editor.
