Wow, very powerful writing. My mother never really liked or bonded with me, having me at 15, I don't remember her liking herself either, I sort of became my own mother, but I never really nurtured myself. I am going to take a better look on how I treat myself.

I hate going to Thanksgiving dinner, I am completely grain-free and vegetarian,so when dining in a group meal I just feel like a huge pain in the ass, but yet it's rude if I stay at home so I travel to another state and end up with an iceberg salad wedge, next year I am staying home.

elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : Skim Milk has the same calorie load as Soda (& 10 other Reasons to not Get Milk).

Milk is one of the only foods that I don't seem to be allergic to or intolerant of, I can't have wheat, corn, legumes, really any grains, bananas etc. I have cut milk out of diet many times but I feel better when I have it as a source of nutrition. I don't eat meat but I consume milk products, which is just as bad ethically. I didn't ever really drink it as a child. I do agree that there has been a lot of propaganda preaching that you need milk, that kids need to drink a lot of milk to grow, I was a tall girl at 5'8 and 130 by the time I was 11, vegetarian and only had maybe 3-4 servings of dairy a month, so being without it didn't stunt my growth.

elephant journal: Yoga, Sustainability, Politics, Spirituality. : Goodbye My Big Fat Chunky Calves. Hello Knee High Boots.

I too have the huge calf muscles. I think more boot makers should have liberal sizing because some of us played sports as a child and don't have little flamingo muscles. I know this is not a small problem because I see people squeezed into boots all the time, even when they have otherwise slim bodies.

Too funny I just left you a comment on your Shiva DVD review. Their is nothing so bad as having to look up at the screen while in a pose to see if you are doing it correctly, some teachers may have great personality or a great inspiring practice, but to truly communicate the movements of a pose and break it down in a way that doesn't leave the participant confused is a skill.
