A friend on Facebook asks: "Praying for our son-in-law at Cherry Point MCAS and for my sister-in-law and her family in Virgiania Beach. May God reduce the strength of the storm and protect all that is in her path."

Untitled : Sleeping Through Storms

Imagine getting to the place where we're not just sleeping during the storm, but *rejoicing* through it! God works through suffering - it's up to us how we handle it.

My Droid's been off the charger for a couple hours and I'm already at 80% just from the phone sitting in my pocket. We'll see how the day goes but, so far, battery still seems to be draining fast.

TechCrunch : TechCrunch Friday Giveaway: We Don't Want This Xbox, So You Can Have It

Because I'm still on my launch Xbox 360 w/ a 20GB hard drive, and I'd like to give it to one of my less fortunate friends (along with an Xbox Live Gold card, my treat) so he and I can kill each other in games like Gears 2 and Halo 3, him on his hand-me-down-but-still-playable Xbox 360, and me on my new Xbox 360 slim.

shawnw.org : You are not Jesus

I'm in agreement with you. But the father saw Jesus in his son, not in himself. We have the holy spirit but that doesn't make us Jesus. Jesus even came to be a servant. It's when we falsely align ourselves with the Word Made Man that our ego gets out of control, and self becomes confused with Jesus.

What's This Life For : Windows vs Mac

My first computer *ever* was a Mac which I had for years. I'm very familiar with Mac OS. I just prefer Windows. Is it because I'm more savvy, like Andy? Maybe. At the same time, when people buy a Mac, they *are* buying the brand whether they want to admit it or not. Why else would they defend the brand so jealously? You don't defend "ease of use," else you'd defend all of your "ease of use" choices the same way. It's OK to say you're a Machead. Andy and I just know to speak slower when we're around you. ;)

shawnw.org : Is this your new idol?

Oh, I agree. Anything can be idolized. But, in regard to the websites I visit and the tweets I follow, the Christian twitterverse is rife with iPad tweets and how "awesome it is, I think I'm sold," and just like Brad says in his comment, it's going to lose its luster. Every material thing loses its luster eventually. Let's be honest, *really* honest here - does anyone *really* need an iPhone, a MacBook Pro and an iPad? Where does it end?

shawnw.org : Is this your new idol?

Unfortunately this isn't so black and white. If you didn't need *anything* then you'd be stranded in Germany and living on the street (which, arguably, is probably what all Christians should be doing.) My point is, when is what we have "good enough?" I was chatting up Andy on Google Buzz yesterday where we talked about this very issue. He talked about getting rid of his iPhone. This was my response: "Well, hang on. Don't be so rash. You need a phone. In this day and age, you need one. BUT... are you using all of your gifts and talents to glorify Him? Are you using the full potential and power of that phone to bring awareness to the grace God gives us? The iPad, that's a luxury but all phones are headed the way of the smartphone. Get involved, get your hands and fingers deep in the culture of those in need, and use your phone to coordinate people and resources to help the needy. Make sure you plug your phone in at the end of the day with only an ounce of battery power left because you went nuts working for God. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: <a href="http://read.ly/1Pet4.10.ESV"" target="_blank">http://read.ly/1Pet4.10.ESV"

Mike, you make a great observation. Might make some things "easier." At what point do we need to realize it's not all about comfort? I'm certainly just as guilty as the next person of wanting things "easy" but, at the same time, what are we losing by having so many luxuries at our fingertips?
