Big Hollywood : Top Ten Most Overrated Actors/Actresses of All Time

Dicaprio should not be on this list based on three performances: 1. Tobias in "This Boy's Life" 2. Arnie in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" 3. Jim in "The Basketball Diaries" Hanks should not be on the list because his decent and great performances far outweight the bad. Also because "the 'Burbs" is one of my favorite movies of all time. Uh... Where's Tom Cruise??? Most. Overrated. EVERRRRR!!

Big Government : Beloved Doctor Benched for Not Being Proficient with Electronic Medical Records System

yeahyouright - you make correct points. It absolutely depends on the product. Good product = makes my life easier and I can spend more time with patient. Good products are usually chosen by physicians. Bad product = makes my life hell for a month or two until I learn how to cheat it and manipulate it into working for me. Usually chosen by hospital managers. I could send you a copy of one of my consult notes and you would be pleased, by the way. No bullets, just paragraphs including impression/plan that always end with "thank you...etc" To malign all of EMR as the Debil (as Bobby Boucher's momma would say) is wrong. By the way, the best EMR ever devised (CPRS ) is freeware to any who want it. It just doesn't talk to billing systems so no one wants it. Which sucks. In a perfect world, everyone would take ownership of their medical record and be custodians of it but tell me, when is the last time you saw a patient who gave a damn enough to do this. Me either.

Then ride your buggy back to 1860 and buy a jar of leeches. It is possible to have basic knowledge of how to use a damned keyboard AND be a good doctor. EMR makes me a better and more efficient doctor. Plain and simple. It actually allows me to spend MORE time face to face because the note writing process is so streamlined. I can include more information and you have the added bonus of it being legible.

DC girl could not be more wrong. Legible, reliable, complete medical records which can now, thankfully, be accessed by the ER physician when you visit the ER to doctor shop for lortab will now prevent said ER doctor from fulfiilling you narcotic dependence if your history of drug seeking behavior and/or pain contract with another MD is in the record. Just one of many benefits of EMR. Ever tried to read chicken scratch clinic notes from some family doc and make sense of it? I have and it is completely frustrating and hinders patient care. Ever ask a patient what their family doc told them about disease X? I have and for the most part they don't have a freaking clue. Bahiabob is dead on accurate

Where to begin.... EMR has nothing to do with HCRA 2011 AKA "Obamacare" I completely agree with all of the above statements and opinions from the polled physicians. I was one of them. EMR has been around for many, many years and has been gaining speed because HOSPITALS WANT IT They see it as a performance improvement strategy and a way to standardize patient records as well as reduce medication errors and improve physician intercommunication. To say that I am for HCRA because I am pro- EMR is to say that one is pro-abortion because one really likes using coathangers. Yes, coathangers are used for abortions and, yes, EMR is part of HCRA but no rational human can argue that the whole piece of legislation is about EMR. It is about MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY

As a fairly young physician, I can certainly sympathize with Dr. Kottemann's situation. The practice of medicine is now 30% doing stuff, 60% documenting how you did that stuff and 10% scrapping like hell to get paid for the stuff you do. Those percentages differ by specialty, of course. I can also tell you that the sixty something physicians I work with almost to a person do the poorest job of documentation. This is simply because they were never made to document to the degree one must to practice today because of the littany of litigious litigators that have spawned and hatched little litigators for the last three decades. I can say, without a doubt, EMR (electronic medical records) have decreased the time spent documenting, decreased medical errors and improved a physician's defensible record wherever implemented. THe problem is THE LEARNING CURVE. Many of us young'erns grew up nagivating computers since we could move our little hands in a controllable fashion. Poor saps like Dr. Kottemann here, with some exceptions, had no such luxury or actively resisted such luxury. It has nothing to do with his clinical skill, which, from what I can gather in the article, is exemplary. THe simple fact is that it is not enough anymore to simply be a good doctor. YOu must also be an expert custodian of the patient's medical record AND protect yourself from harm. It's a wonder why anyone wants to do this anymore. *sigh*. Anyway, unfortunately Dr. Kottemann is an elevator operator and a servce station attendant and a damned good one. Too bad it's a world push buttons and self-serve. Let flaming commence in 3.... 2.... 1.....

Big Hollywood : West Point Cadet Expelled After Incident Involving Singer Patti Labelle's Bodyguards

I think it was because he was intoxicated (according to several reports I've read) and he even admitted he had had a few but was not intoxicated. This is not allowable of west point cadets and is probably the reason he is being expelled.

Big Hollywood : The Chris Titus Apology That Wasn't

Look, Titus, if I wanted a lecture on how to get homeless teens off the street I would have asked Jeffrey Dahmer. It always amazes me that these dumbass comedians offend half of their potential audience with their putrid political statements. Goes to show you what a vacuum the entertainment world is. They automatically assume the vast majority of people agree with them. I hope his non-existent career just goes ahead and finishes dying already.

Big Hollywood : 'Battle: Los Angeles': A Day on the Set With the Writer, Director, and the United States Marines

Baton Rouge (and Louisiana for that matter) is the new "LA" (pun intended). Given the HUGE tax breaks/incentives/corporate welfare handed out here, studios are flocking to cajun country to film. I remember they closed the Mississippi River bridge for half a day filming some of the sequences. I was tres pissed.

Big Hollywood : 'The Fighter' Review: Boxing Drama Soars with Great Performances

I clearly remember watching the first fight between Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti. The tenth round of that fight was simply the best round of boxing I have ever witnessed. I remember jumping around my apartment screaming and cheering Ward. Needless to say, I have been looking forward to this movie for a long time. It does not disappoint. Christian Bale gives the best performance of his career. He is simply and totally believable as Dicky Ward. My favorite, though, are Micky and Dicky's sisters. They are spot on and well cast additions to the milieu. I also think Mark Wahlberg has always been an underrated actor. I thought he was fantastic in 'Rock Star' (another underrated and fun movie). I highly recommend "The Fighter" Of course the second and third Ward-Gatti fights were anticlimactic and Gatti won both of them. His life would also make a fantastic (yet tragic) movie. Gatti was, without a doubt, one of the most exciting fighters I have ever seen. His fights were brawling wars and always exciting to watch. He was, as Jimmy Trebol above commented on, likely murdered by his model/stripper wife. Very sad

Big Hollywood : Why Tom Jones and Elvis Both Wanted to Beat up John Lennon

I don't love the Beatles or Lenon as much as you, Pablo... just not my style. From that era I much prefer the early prog rockers and darker shades of rock. The beatles are not, however, the most overrated. In my opinion, that distinction goes to the Rolling Stones. I also believe that Rush puts both Zeppelin (one of my all time faves) and the beatles and the stones and .... to shame. Period. Exclaimation point!

Please don't mistake some hippie hating talk for what it (in all probability) really was: Jealousy, pure and simple. The Beatles were at that time what Elvis once was and what Tom Jones never was (or would be). Elvis probably bristled at the lack of respect shown him by these bowl cut wearing morons (akin to spitting on the Godfather's ring). Please let us not make Elvis into the conservative crush du jour from the ranks of celebrity past and present. Tom Jones is just a preening idiot. That being said, I wish both of them would have put every one of the Beatles in a kimmura submission hold after some devastating ground and pound.

Big Hollywood : Students Against Hummus, Not Hamas

When I first viewed the video I was disgusted, nauseous and felt the urge to evacuate my bowels. Then I watched it again and felt strangely aroused and confused. Something about a woman with a scarlet mullet just strikes a chord deep inside me. Maybe it has to do with my intense liking of chicken and turkey combs. Maybe it looks like a bloody hatchet wound on the head.... I digress... Anyway, I imagined them doing their little thriller zombie dance in Tel Aviv with gawking onlookers pointing their jewish fingers and gasping. It's easy to protest when there are no dire physical consequences to it I guess. It's really sad that the college kids of today have to protest hummus because they have no other real injustice enaceted against them a' la civil rights marchers of the 60's. Let's see how much they believe in their little cause with water cannons and German shepherds trained on them.

Big Hollywood : Politico: Both Parties in Congress Agree -- 'Colbert, you’re dead to us.'

I guess I should have chosen my wording better. My point was that Gutfeld, The Onion, Newsbusted, etc. are much more satirical than condescending. They lampoon rather than ridicule. Stewart et al. operate from a superior/elitist point of view where they are "letting you in on the joke" so you can point and laugh at the object of their ridicule. Letterman operates in much the same way. That being said, I actually do enjoy watching Stewart do actual interviews. He is pretty fair for the most part when one on one and off script. Then you have the vitriolic bombthrowers a la David Cross, Louis CK, many others. They are just loathesome of anything that reminds them of what total degenerates they are. They seem to hate everything decent in the world but hate themselves the most. A big part of the success of the daily show and failure of mirror shows reflects the desire in many, many people to feel superior and the opportunity to laugh AT some poor bastard(s) rather than appreciating well done satire or a good lampooning. It just appeals to our baser instincts and that's why it works.

In interest of objectivity: - Colbert was asked by congress to testify, in character. What was he gonna do, say no? Are you kidding me? It's a comedian's dream. Don't hate Colbert for being there, hate the submoronic congressional staffer who thought it was a good idea. - Colbert absolutely drills Westmoreland (I remember watching it and being painfully embarrassed for him), that much is true but Westy did himself no favors. If you can't take the spotlight, don't get up on the stage. - Colbert is actually pretty funny when delivering lines written for him (much like Jon Stewart and President Obama) The reason a righty show to mirror "The Daily Show" or "The Colbert Report" will never work is because true conservatives and libertarians have a hard time making fun of serious issues that threaten our republic. Lefty nitwits who don't care one iota about America, the Constitution or responsible politics have no problem appealing to their audieance by turning important problems into sophomoric punch lines and sexual innuendo which gets laughs, of course. Gimmiecrats love to laugh and mock the responsible adults and those shows give them license and avenue.
