Nalwa, I would have gotten what I deserved if I had lied. I didn't lie. Now, if Robert snapped at me because he's stressed out, as Sorrow01 suggests below, that's fine. I don't expect everybody to be on their A-game all the time. But if he wanted to he could actually use my criticism to improve his site. In my response to Briars above, I detailed why it would be helpful to know what interpretation Robert is quoting from. That may not be something you're interested in, but it should at least be there (somewhere readily available) in case somebody like me wants to know. It could only improve the site.

I'm sure when Robert gets up in the morning and has had some time away from this post, he will probably see things a little differently. I know he's no fool. I never lied to him or anyone else, so I don't expect him to stand by what he said - not after having had some time to think about it.

"Also, when you claim that something is never done, you are blown out of the water if it is done even once."

I haven't followed this site since its inception and haven't closely followed Robert's career, so I have no idea whether he has literally never told what Qur'an interpretations he uses. But I also don't expect the average reader to take what I said literally. Robert hasn't divulged this information in his posts in the past two or three months since I've been following this site, as far as I know - nor has he made it readily available in the links at the top or side of the front page.

How about you leave this issue to Robert? He's a professional writer and, despite how he's responded so far, I think he can do a better job at addressing my questions than you can. I'm sure he can speak for himself.

You're calling me stupid and suggesting I have a caregiver, and you're doing this for, apparently, no good reason. I won't be responding to you anymore. Take care.

The Qur'an isn't hyperlinked. The quotation I was asking Robert about was the one from the Qur'an.

"Also, you can do a site search on the engine."

What key words would you suggest I use to find info on Robert's preferred translations of the Qur'an? I checked a likely hit, "koran translation," and found nothing having to do with what I was asking about.

Robert quotes frequently from the Qur'an. Why would he, or anyone else, expect folks to search through the archives to find out what interpretation he uses? When I looked for this information, I checked the links near the top of the page and along the side of the recent articles. What is it about my rationale, exactly, that you find stupid?

"When you make statements like that you will get such a response."

I'll be called a liar? Why? See my second response to Robert.

"As for your other concerns, check the archives."

Are you referring to the questions I asked Robert below? I only ask you this because, like Robert, you're not being completely clear here. I don't understand why Robert would call me a liar. I looked around the site trying to find what interpretation of the Qur'an he uses, and I couldn't find anything. He didn't include this information with his quote from Surah Al-Nisa'. If you're telling me he divulged this information in past posts, I don't think that justifies him screaming "Liar!" at me. I'm not a site historian.

Robert, do you state somewhere on this site where you get your interpretations from? How would I know? Why not just include this information when you quote from interpretations of the Qur'an?

I don't understand why you're calling me a liar or what you think I'm lying about.

"Liar!"

Wow... relax.

It would be nice to know which one he's using since interpretations often differ so significantly from one another. For instance, the interpretation quoted above includes the words "As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them." On the other hand, Yusuf Ali's translation reads: "As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly)." In Robert's copy (whichever one it happens to be), it sounds as if Muslims are being told to do everything at once instead of in steps. M.A.S. Abdel Haleem's interpretation is as follows: "If you fear high-handedness from your wives, remind them [of the teachings of God], then ignore them when you go to bed, then hit them." Haleem includes a footnote clarifying that hitting, in this verse, signifies a single slap. That's a far cry from scourging. All these minor differences add up.

I wonder how come Robert never tells us which translation of the Qur'an he uses for these quotes...
