"there are also good cops out there" I'm pretty skeptical of this claim. Even if this is true, the supposed good cops are part of the same system that protects bad cops at almost all costs. This story is an oddity in a system that investigates and polices itself and the worst punishment is normally leave with pay.

I don't know how much more lethal it is, but it appears to be much more contagious. It also seems to affect the respiratory system more so it can be more deadly to certain people that the seasonal flu would be. If I had kids, I would vaccinate.

Communist (Not really communist anymore) China spends far more on mass transit, and while Portland is good in that respect compared to most US cities, we have a long way to go to compare to most countries. Unlike you, ever since the green line opened, downtown is much more accessible and I enjoy being able to leave my car at home a couple times week. On the topic of Canada, I hope someday I am able to take the MAX to Portland and hop on a high speed rail to Seattle and on to Vancouver, which is a great city.

No he's saying the police can't violate the constitution and apparently he is a lawyer since the appeals court agreed. You really need to separate your emotions from the law, because you're talking about giving up consent to search because you're mad about some guy's DUI.

You don't understand the law. Just because someone is accused of a crime you dislike doesn't mean they give up their rights. Rights are only useful when they are enforced. You give the police too much credit. Take away all protections of citizens and you have a roving street gang with the backing of the government and a gun. It's disgusts me how willing people are to give up their rights and bow to the whims of the most abusive arm of the state.

This decision was a 5-4 ruling in favor of the lawyer, so he's obviously pretty smart and it's clear to me that this falls under illegal search without a warrant. But of course because people see it involved drinking, it doesn't matter what the law is or how far the police overstep their authority.

The police don't prevent crime anyway, they respond to crime. In this particular case, it would have been better to keep the police out of it altogether. I think a lot of other crime victims have learned and will learn it's better not to call the police.

He still has his job, and we're paying off his lawsuit, for at least the second time. This should have been a criminal trial, but I suspect the police internal invetigation cleared him.
