SmartBlog on Restaurants : Restaurants recycle cups, corks, oil and food waste

Thanks for the comment, Amy! I'm very curious to learn how many restaurants have explored these kinds of options. We certainly saw some examples at the National Restaurant Association's show this year.

That's a really great point about compostables. Maybe we'll poll the readers of Restaurant SmartBrief soon and see how many of them are making the switch or already have.

SmartBlog on Restaurants : Twitter, Foursquare, Yelp, YouTube: What's your social-media tool of choice?

You may very well be right! I'll be the first to admit that for half the conference, I was sequestered away in education sessions about social media, so my company was a bit a biased. I think the key is that a lot of restaurants are aware of social media and they're curious about it. They're also starting to hear about the great examples a few companies are setting with social media. But by and large, this is probably more of an upcoming trend (for the industry as a whole) than one we're all currently involved in.

Hi Bobby -- I think that's a very good guess! The great thing about YouTube is that it can be incorporated into other forms of social media -- embedded in Facebook or linked on YouTube. You know marketing has changed when the local news is covering the latest viral video! Burger King is a good example of a company that's using YouTube as a vehicle for not just marketing, but for fresh content. http://www.youtube.com/user/bk

Those community initiatives sound great! It looks like Barmuda has dozens of community partnerships. How do you decide who to partner with?

Thanks for the comment! The great thing about a lot of mobile technologies is that they're appealing on both a consumer and a business level. There are no more excuses for boring marketing with all of these technologies at our fingertips!
