Daily Camera.com: : U.S. 36 tolls, traffic meet expectations in first month - Boulder Daily Camera

100% agreed. There should be a class action lawsuit against RTD to recuperate the tax money that was stolen from Boulder residents. There should be a ballot measure that gives voters the option of reclaiming our highway from this private corporation. There are a lot of legal issues here, but if RTD is sued by Plenary as a consequence of voters demanding their money back and their roads back, so be it. RTD administrators needs to be held responsible for their actions.

Yes, I prefer that public infrastructure be owned and paid by the public. I prefer that people with money do not have greater access to public goods simply because they are wealthy. Public infrastructure should be owned and regulated by the public. This project was mismanaged by RTD when they used Boulder's tax money elsewhere. And their solution to this was to bring in a private company to raise even more money off taxpayers through this extra lane, all the while claiming it was to induce people to take public transit. So we already paid a large portion of the cost through our taxes. Now they're telling us to pay more to use a special lane for fifty years.

This entire project is a travesty. It should anger every Colorado resident that our PUBLIC infrastructure has been privatized and that as we drive down OUR highways, there are signs blinking telling us how much we'll have to pay if we dare to switch to an "express" lane. If we do not oppose it, the privatization of public goods will continue. All those at RTD who engineered this sellout should be removed from their positions for their abject failures. And a ballot measure should be created to take back our highways from these corporate thieves. Public infrastructure belongs to all of us, not just those willing to pay for Cadillac lanes.

Daily Camera.com: : With 6% spike in freshmen, CU-Boulder welcomes largest class of all time - Boulder Daily Camera

Yep, I see it from the inside. CU professors are dealing with woefully unprepared students who lack basic skills, have no work ethic, and demand good grades. I knew a professor who had some international students in his classes from China and the Middle East who didn't speak basic English. CU doesn't enter these international students into basic English writing courses. They're just dumped onto the professors who end up basically teaching English as a second language. All this happening at what administrators advertise as a world-class university. What a sad sad state of affairs.

Two things stick out here: 1) They do not mention CU's acceptance rate. In 2013 it was 88%. Has it gone above 90%? What does that say about academic standards when you accept almost anyone who applies? What other public flagship universities have a similar acceptance rate? (Berkeley is 18.1%, Michigan's is 32%, UT-Austin is 40%, Wisconsin is 48%, Minnesota is 45%, and, interestingly enough, Colorado State-Fort Collins is 77%). So basically, CU-Boulder has no academic standards. I hope the administrators are proud. 2) "CU's international population also grew by 17.5 percent to 2,621 students." This is the money-making strategy of CU administration. Increase the number of international students because their tuition rates are exorbitant. I am guessing the acceptance rate of international students approaches 100%--doesn't matter if they have bad grades, can barely speak English, etc. It's all about the $ for CU's administration. Got to find a way to pay the six figure salaries of the proliferating administrators.

I think this person would not have considered a mosque because this person is a Christian. See how that works? I clearly wasn't attacking all Christians, but the reality is that many Christians do not behave as Christ would when they discriminate against others they deem outside their moral universe. It's really not that complicated.

Actually, no, I don't know a mosque that would have taken this parishioner. But I wasn't TALKING about mosques, and neither is this article about mosques. It's about a church, and it's about CHRISTIANS, so that's why I made the comment that CHRISTIANS can act very unChrist-like. Bringing up a mosque when the article is talking about a church is your attempt to deflect an argument with a red herring. Try harder to focus and stay on point. Thank you!

Daily Camera.com: : Michael J. Rush: Why would anyone drive? - Boulder Daily Camera

Why do people think Boulder has such wonderful public transit infrastructure? I've never understood this. Boulder is not a compact town, except in the downtown area. It's not easily walkable. The buses are fine if you are not transferring. If you have to transfer, a 10 minute trip by car becomes 30 minutes or more by bus. So you want everyone to ride their bikes, eh? Great, if you enjoy bike riding or are fit enough to ride everywhere, or don't have phobias about getting hit by cars. But many people don't care to bike, or are not fit enough to ride everywhere (please, don't lecture me on how great for my health it will be to ride everywhere). I'm simply too clumsy to ride a bike everywhere--it's not a pretty sight. So have some consideration for other people before you project your own life onto everyone else.

"In Congress, I've been a strong supporter of nuclear arms reduction" Not when it comes to Israeli nuclear weapons, you haven't. That is the elephant in the room, congressman. Iran's drive to acquire nuclear weapons has much to do with Israel's possession of hundreds of nukes. What makes sense would be to push for a nuclear free Middle East entirely. Linking Israeli disarmament with Iran's commitment to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty is a no-brainer. But I guess AIPAC wouldn't allow that, right Jared?

Daily Camera.com: : CU launching expanded center for intellectual, political diversity - Boulder Daily Camera

Thanks SgtGroovy. I'm on the inside watching these guys, from Benson, to DeStefano on down, and let me tell you, it's a scary thing to see the corruption and incompetence of this group. They reward other yes men, and either ignore or punish those who oppose them. CU bleeds brilliant junior faculty who get here and don't find the support they need. They also leave after realizing that the administrators at CU have decided to turn CU into a corporate money-making scheme, diminishing academic standards in the process. With an 87% acceptance rate, CU will literally accept anyone, especially wealthy internationals and out of staters. They don't have to be prepared--some of them actually barely speak English. All of that is dumped onto the faculty, who end up teaching remedial writing to American students and non-American students alike. So this initiative is just another publicity stunt; it's an attempt to make the headlines. The one thing CU's administration is afraid of is controversy; they're terrified that the right wing media will focus on this campus as a site of those awful activist faculty who teach about irrelevant things like slavery and Native American history. So now they can point to their conservative scholars program as evidence of how welcoming they are of all perspectives, including those that deny climate change. I'm not exaggerating when I say they are running CU into the ground.

This is more grandstanding BS from the old white men who run CU and have no clue how to make it a global university that they claim they want it to be. The new Dean of Arts and Sciences is a joke--a clueless bureaucrat who is running the place into the ground. Faculty have no confidence in him. The other administrators are similarly clueless, throwing money at themselves and at pet projects that they hope will bring good publicity to CU. The entire premise for this project is that conservatives need affirmative action. Meanwhile, the University continues to axe critical programs and courses that offer real contributions to the study of the world. CU is succeeding in making itself a provincial outpost, totally irrelevant and unable to compete with stellar public universities like Michigan, UW-Madison, UT-Austin, UCLA...the list goes on and on. Get a clue administrators--you're destroying CU and you refuse to listen to people on the inside watching it happen.

Wait, so this guy didn't come into Boulder because of two reasons: student move-in (which happens every year and can't be controlled. In case you haven't heard William, Boulder is a college town), and Folsom "right sizing"? One could easily get to downtown and avoid Folsom entirely.
Daily Camera.com: : CU-Boulder named one of the most LGBTQ friendly schools in the country - Boulder Daily Camera

Queer is a term that is used by anyone who feels that their gender or sexual identity and attractions are outside social norms. So technically, a "straight" person can identify as queer if his/her sexual identity is not considered normative by the mainstream, or if he/she does not identify with mainstream heterosexual culture. It is seen as being more inclusive by many because it doesn't bind people to categories like "gay" or "lesbian" which connote a fixed attraction. So queer is a more inclusive term that encompasses anyone who does not identify with mainstream culture. Many gays and lesbians, for example, do not identify with the mainstream gay or lesbian culture, just as many straight people rebel against what is considered acceptable in terms of mainstream straight culture. For all these people, queer is a category that is inclusive enough to include anything that is non-normative.

He calls himself a democratic socialist along the lines of European social democrats. He has said that repeatedly. A typical Democrat is a corporatist shill for big business and wall street (like Hillary Clinton). What is so difficult to understand about this? Bernie Sanders has never advocated state control of private industry. He is not a communist. Look at Germany as an example: Even the conservative parties in Europe support universal health care and higher tax rates for the wealthy. Even the conservative parties support free higher education. Bernie and Merkel (a conservative) have a lot in common in this respect. Germany is doing very well because it has a healthy, educated population. That is what Bernie is trying to bring to the US. So, you can use your silly fear tactics, but you are simply under informed or stupid. Do some reading, educate yourself about the world and how absolutely backwards we are when it comes to infrastructure, education, and health care compared to the "awful" socialist countries of northern Europe.

1. Basically, you are arguing that Trump does not have a clear position. So you are saying he is an incoherent flip-flopper blowhard? 2. I don't ever recall anyone suggesting that we "open our borders". Trump is for a mass-deportation in cattle cars of millions undocumented people. Sanders is not. Sanders makes it clear he is not for unrestricted immigration, but nowhere does he say he is against immigration--his own father was a Jewish immigrant. I don't agree with him that unskilled immigrants take jobs away from our own unemployed youth, but his message is an economic populist message, when it comes to trade and labor in the US. But it seems you're really misreading his positions intentionally. Have a nice day, I'm going out to enjoy the sunshine.

Trump USED to support single payer, 15 years ago. In the first debate, he said it was an idea that would have worked in a different time, but not today. This is what Trump actually said: "What I'd like to see is a private system without the artificial lines around every state. I have a big company with thousands and thousands of employees. And if I'm negotiating in New York or in New Jersey or in California, I have like one bidder. Nobody can bid. You know why? Because the insurance companies are making a fortune because they have control of the politicians, of course, with the exception of the politicians on this stage. But they have total control of the politicians. They're making a fortune." That is not single payer. Do you have anything to support your assertion that Bernie wants to keep immigrants out? That's just a flat out lie. You are clearly not well informed, not about Trump and not about Bernie.

Well, Obama was right. You DIDN'T build that. Your self-sufficiency is a myth, and Trump is the prime example of that. To suggest that Trump's self-aggrandizing bs (why does he have to constantly remind everyone how smart he is? Is he trying to convince himself?) is in any way similar to the campaign that Obama ran in 2008 just demonstrates how removed from reality you and other Republicans today are. The fact that a blowhard like Trump is leading the Republicans would be laughable if it were not so depressing.
