YourCT.com : Health Care Reform, Because The System Is Broken

The other thing that should be looked at is the cost of a medical education. Doctor's start out with a huge debt to pay off. Maybe the gov't can subsidize the costs of getting that MD, making it possible for more people to go into medicine and chanrge more realistically when they get into practice.

Note that all the parents against the president's message to students are white. Covert racism, ya' think?

YourCT.com : "death panels", I want 'em

Rose, I hope you stay employed and covered under your employer's plan. Should you lose your job or decide to become an independent contractor, you may well be denied coverage because of pre-existing conditons, have an extremely high deductable or pay an exorbitant premium. Or all three. Talk to some people who work for themselves or run small mom and pop businesses about health insurance. Oh, and if you're laid off and get COBRA? Thank the gov't for enacting the bill that makes this possible -- not the insurers (who would drop you like a hot potato).

YourCT.com : The Non-foodie's Guide To France

Americans are such wussies about food. We don't want to be remnded of the "innards" that go into our sausages and cold cuts. Ever inquire about how hot dogs are made? And what about Jell-O? How about the hides and hooves that are cooked down to create that nice jiggly desert? At least the French face their offal honestly....

What Rose is forgetting is that the excellent health care she recieved was the result of other people paying into the insurance "pot". That's how it works -- a statistical pool where all pay in but not all use to the same extent. So she is using money that others have contributed. Some through employee programs; some from thier own pocekts (self-emplyed, free-lancers, etc.) Her care costs, I'm sure, far outstripped what she paid in. I have not used my insurance; if I paid into it so that Rose could get treatment, great. I do not begrudge my dollars going to help those who need it -- whether those are paid into a private insurance company or to the government through taxes. I think illegals and those not working are a small percentage. Besides, aren't people on welfare already on the government's "socalized" Medicare program?

Liverot (the town and home of Liverot cheese -- wonderfully tasty and smelly) has a small cheese museum set up in the basment of a resident's home. I believe this museum to be the origin of the term "cheesy" -- as in "that's a pretty cheesy excuse for a museum."

Love it...where eating (and drinking) local is not an affectation of the foodie cult but a patriotic calling.
