This Magazine : How farmers are going to save civilization

Good points. When we first obtained our 5 acres we thought we needed it to sustain ourselves, but now realise that much, much less is required by utilising Permaculture techniques. Everyone doesn't have to grow their own food, simply try to purchase food from someone who produces it ethically. On our five acre plot, we sustain ourselves and others, run an ethical business and grow surplus to sell locally. In fact, I now believe that 5 acres could support quite a lot of people in local produce with some to spare to go 'wild' and support wildlife too. What we are about is not self-sufficiency but community self-reliance, so I think permaculture can work for society creating opportunities as outlined in the previous post, together with community economics, education and community initiatives.
