I listen to what all these candidates have to say on various topics, and some of it I find myself cheering and some I find distasteful. It can get very confusing. But then I come around and realize that most of it is an minor distraction compared to the answer to that one big question: "What are you going to do about Islam?". I don't care if you slept around, got bad grades, or made a bit of money on insider deals. pro-life, pro-choice, gay straight, so what? I only care that you are going to take the fight those lunatics who want to send the whole planet back into the dark ages - because if you don't, nothing else will matter. When I think about the prospects for this world infected by Islam, it makes me feel guilty to have bought 3 kids into it. Listening to NEWT I'm pretty confident he's better informed and more committed to do something about that death cult than any of the others.

I can only speak for myself, but I always treat others as I expect to be treated. I have respect for my neighbor and I bring my kids up to know right from wrong. I don't need a religion to make make sure I do those things. Do you think that you are the kind of person that, if one day you had a revelation that your religion was false, you would no longer have a moral code? Would you start treating people like dirt without a belief in God to keep you on track?

Then you are using the wrong word. If we are to have meaningful dialogue, we have to agree on the meaning of words we use. Some people agree with you on just about everything except that there is a god. They identify themselves as atheists on that one point. If you believe someone to be evil, call them evil, not atheist. As you probably guessed from a previous post, I am an atheist. I can't help it. You don't get to choose what you believe about the mechanisms that bought us and our universe into being, especially if you have a thirst for knowledge and read science books. There are plenty of right leaning atheists who see the despicable behavior of the left for what it is. www.theatheistconservative.com unreligiousright.blogspot.com etc. Regarding morals, here is just one, albeit simplified view that does not rely on a supernatural creator: "morally good things pertain to increases in the well-being of conscious creatures". Nothing wrong with that. I don't vilify anyone for their beliefs. I do get pretty angry when they carry out immoral actions as a consequence of those beliefs. Muslims for example carry out a lot of immoral actions because evil is woven into the fabric of the book they live by. Christians used to carry out evil actions in the name of their religion too. That has for the most part changed. Atheism is not an alternative religion. That would be like calling "off" an alternative TV channel. In fact, atheism doesn't really need a label as it is the default state we are born in, before indoctrination by adults. So I think you would do yourself and the conservative movement a favor by using words for the meanings most people agree on.

I think his comment was not simply (or exactly) racist, but worse than racist. I'll explain, first, we need to understand the intended joke. He was implying that republicans are so racist that for Newt to be less popular than a black man in a republican's eyes, he must be seriously unpopular. The problem is that the meme that republicans vote based on race is itself a fabrication of the left. His statement shows that leftists think its just fine to use a black guy as joke fodder, any black guy will do. The black man is fair game as a tool to insult people with. It's quite sad, Maher doesn't even realize he is a racist, probably because his definition of racist is someone who disagrees with him. He agrees with himself, therefore he concludes, he is not a racist.

I read 1984 recently and couldn't help noticing the similarities all the way through between Ingsoc and Islam. It was like Orwell knew exactly what we had coming. Think of the examples of doublespeak in Islam, worse even than the crap that comes out of Obama's mouth. War is Peace. In Islam, peace means the state of the world when there are no more infidels, i.e. perpetual war. Inquiry is forbidden and truth comes from the authority of big brother / Allah. But truth cannot not come from faith or unquestioned authority, almost by definition. To say something is true it must be provable. In Islam truth is a lie, lies are true if repeated enough. 2+2=5, Islam is a race and you are racist. Palestine is a concentration camp. Those posing as anti-racists are the racists who want to annihilate the Jewish race. Islam is a self perpetuating ideology that needs no earthly leader, just a symbol with which to identify. It spreads by infecting the heads of its adherents absolutely. If this disease gets enough of a foothold it is unstoppable. This was the aspect of Ingsoc that Orwell went to great lengths to describe at the end of 1984: how the system guards against the failings of the lesser ideologies like socialism and communism, which burned themselves out because they failed to achieve total submission. Most striking and frightening parallel I think, is the doctrine of the destruction of the self. The complete submission of the individual will to the collective and the lengths the party/Islam will go to, to destroy human nature. 1984 is such an important book and I think many people would do well to read it in the context of what we now see happening in the Islamic world.
