The same company 'village cars' also has another recent incident tagged where the passenger had his ears removed by the driver and some of his associates. What would we do without our cultural enrichers?

I think the truth is somewhere between. I'd say 72 million, today. A walk through Oldham Town Centre on any weekday shows me this, just in the volume and change of faces in the last 7-8 years. As you say, waste is definitely a huge issue, but it's not a new phenomenon and, I would have hoped, would have been factored into the report described in 'facts on a plate', rather than simply using gross food sales figures. As an aside, Alan Johnson doesn't lie in bed worrying about Britains population climbing to 70 million, because he's pretty damn sure we crossed that threshold already.
