Not only do I believe in corporal punishment in schools, but I think caning should be implemented into our justice system. I can think of several instances reported in our newspaper where caning would be appropriate, can you?

Now, as to Nan's ideas regards liberty and pursuit of happiness. First, she tries to make us believe that we are not free unless we have a right to health care. Uhhh, Nan, are you aware that Obama's plan dictates that health care coverage would be required of all US citizens? When something is required, Nan, that means there is no choice as to its offering - you must have it! Seems like your idea of freedom is one where you are a dependent of government, Nan. That's not my idea of freedom. As far as pursuing happiness, it's not the pursuit of government funds disguised as gifts that should be our focus, Nan. It's the ability to make our own decisions which lead to our own independent result in life, on our own, realized without government intervention. Please think a little more carefully next time you attempt to dismember and twist our sacred Constitutional documents for your own selfish use.

Nan's letter to the editor - tsk tsk tsk. The premise that a right to life somehow extends to nationalized health care is absurd. First, the unalienable rights as exampled by the Declaration are admitted to be God-given. "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness...." These rights spoken of are elements inherent to our nature - natural rights borne out of natural law. Our nature is one where we have a will to survive. This is why there is a defense to the crime of murder - self defense - we have a right under the law to defend ourselves against someone trying to take our life. Health care does not even begin to rise to this level.. What is most interesting about her lame argument is that she fails to recognize one thing: We will all die at some point - it is inevitable. What does she think people did for centuries before without health insurance?

If you want jobs, incentives need to be given to small business entreprenuers to start and grow their businesses. Tax incentives. Look up the states who are doing better economically compared to the rest, and look at the reason why. LOW TAXES. Look at the states who are doing the worst, and you will find HIGH TAXES. When you have a free market economy, one of the aspects of it is a laisse faire approach - which means "hands off". Private business should be left alone to make decisions on their own. Why are businesses in business? TO MAKE A PROFIT. If government does things to make business unprofitable, it is no wonder they look to alternatives to increase profits. If this involves going to other countries, I can't blame them. It's all about $$. You want to keep business here? Support government policy which serves to support the goal of business owners, elsewise you will lose them.

I think the awarding of the Nobel to Obama was a shrewd strategy on behalf of the Committee. This is the first time that anyone has won this based upon visionary expectation, rather than factual result . This award has embarrassed the administration. Staff members, as well as Obama, have expressed their own disbelief by stating it was undeserved. The international community has now had confirmed that the awarding of this Nobel openly smacks of political tainting. The shrewdness lies in the fact that now Obama has to do what he says he will do - he is being held accountable for what he has told the international community, and has been proactively awarded for a result. Pressure is on big time now for him, because he must perform. I personally think it is a mistake to attempt to restructure America against European nations, because we lose the very thing that makes us great - our sovereignty and our freedom. But this is what you get when you have leaders who think otherwise. Very little was known about Obama during his campaign, and most people who voted for him voted a protest vote against Bush policy, not necessarily a vote for Obama.

Didn't like that last line of this article - let's be more specific - this project was held up because of Ann Brownlee. Funding was in place - ready to go - and then, here comes Annie with her claims of historical destruction. The state cannot sit on funding without going forward, so - the funds went elsewhere as a direct result of Brownlee's objections. Glad to see it having some momentum now. It's time to build a bridge.

Following up on my earlier comment...if it were made known that there was a post - contact treatment for rabies in the case of an animal, this would eliminate or at least lessen the need for a preventative annual treatment..... wouldn't it? hmmmm....wonder how much money this would cost the benefactors of the preventative treatment....there is a lot of hype about humans coming in contact with rabid animals...it is extremely RARE that anyone would contract rabies in any other method than an actual bite. It's not impossible, mind you, but rare.....media has a bent towards sensationalizing events like this....it pays to think a little before getting carried away with the flow....I do think that preventative treatment is best for animals, however, because there can be instances where a domestic animal is bitten by a rabid animal and the animal's owner is not aware.....which could cause a whole lotta grief...

Call me crazy, but this is a legitimate question: why is it that a human, who is not current on their rabies shot, can get shots after making contact with a rabid animal to remedy the problem, but in the case of an animal, that is not done?? In addition, one would think that an animal who had the rabies shot, despite it being not current, would have even a better chance of survival, than a human who had never had the shot at all.
