Daily Camera.com: : Landmarks Board gives initial support to historic district on Boulder\'s Uni Hill - Boulder Daily Ca

What is really needed is a pedestrian zone i.e Pearl St. on 13th between Pennsylvania and College. Try to have a cuppa streetside and find you have to shout to be heard by the person next to you because of truck noise let alone the fumes. It should be restricted for the same reasons Pearl St. is. that is, because this is where the people (the students) hang and has a unique flavor that can only be ruined by the traffic.

If you can come up with a solution that doesn't involve a cost then let us hear it but it sounds you are more interested in avoiding the cost than of safety. One can avoid any cost by leaving the \"Crosswalk east of Broadway one of most dangerous locations in Boulder\" as is. Is that what you want?

I'll bet Boulderways isn't one of the 35,000 students who walk to class and face having to cross 36, Baseline or Broadway where the cars are going 40 mph either coming from or going to Denver. Boulder understands that this creates a dangerous condition for both so Boulder built an underpass on Broadway at College and another at Broadway and the UMC. . Try crossing Broadway at Pennyslvania and see the cars going down the hill at 40mph. It is just a matter of time before there is another underpass there or Pleasant. An underpass costs money but the cars can speed and dumb kids can't jaywalk so the problem is solved.

Universities are in sports for the money. So long as the Legislature refuses to adequately fund the school in turn the school will appeal to its alums. Alums will contribute but alums want a winner. More money is put into athletic facilities(to attract recruits) and for a coach who will win. CU, even with its record grosses 25 million dollars so this is a big time sports program. Now not every school will succeed and many like CU lose money. There is no evidence that these expenditures have diminished academic construction. And if the team hits alums are happy and the money comes flowing in.

There is a simple truth, that is for the last 50 years the tie that binds alums to their university is football. There are limited options for alums to bind with the University and a chance to see college friends for a game and dinner on a glorious Sept. day is a combination which satisfies and opens their wallets. There is a lot to criticize i.e. salaries of coaches, under the table payments etc. but until critics can find a substitute football will be supported by both the University and alums.

Daily Camera.com: : CU athletic director: Boulder\'s business community will benefit from $143M facilities project - Bou

Football is the main bond between CU and its alums. Students want sex, faculty wants parking and alums want athletic success. These are intractable truths of university life. Sexual complaints increase when the University is no longer acting in loco parentis. Spending on athletics increases as a means of enhancing performance. On can complain but in the face of these campus truths one bows to the inevitable.

Daily Camera.com: : Strength in numbers: CU-Boulder to pilot crowdfunding for small projects - Boulder Daily Camera

Am just guessing that South Campus might be one of the eight projects. South Campus is not a campus. It is an abandoned quarry, reached by a dirt road. It has no buildings, no plumbing, no electricity. That means no locker rooms, showers, meeting rooms or coach's office. This is the facility CU provides for Pac 12 teams to compete in tennis and cross country. And has been this way since it was constructed 10 years ago. The women don't require flat screen TV's, paneled walls or 300,000k for coach's office. Only the bare minimum like a place to shower, some shelter from the weather and electricity for heat. CU should be ashamed for asking Pac 12 teams to compete there.Boulder jail provides better conditions than CU provides for its athletes at South Campus.

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : CU football: Darian Hagan headed to Colorado Hall of Fame Thursday - Buffzone

All in favor of Darian making the Hall of Fame, But at the same time George should try to furnish some plumbing, shelter and electricity for the student athletes competing at South Campus. South Campus is not a campus it is an abandoned quarry reached by a dirt road off of Mesa. There are eight tennis courts to which CU invites Cal, UCLA, USC and Stanford to compete but furnishes no plumbing so there are no showers, public toilets, locker rooms, heat, electricity or shelter. There is no shelter so when it rains or the wind blows down from the mountains. There is no electricity for heat. They don't ask for flat screen TV's, indoor Jacuzzis' but do expect the minimum which they are not receiving now. This is the 10th year CU has made promises but no action. Take a minute to drive out there and see how much CU pride you take away. It is probably the worst facility provided by a D1 school for intercollegiate competition in the nation

Buffzone.com: CU sports from the Daily Camera : Ringo: Time to aim higher is now for Tad Boyle\'s CU Buffs - Buffzone

"Colorado athletic director Rick George...completed a strategic plan....which included some bold goals for some of its teams." But only some of its teams. This coming year marks 10 years since CU built euphemistically called South Campus. South Campus is not a campus it is an abandoned quarry, reached by a dirt road at the end of which CU has provided eight tennis courts but no shelter, plumbing, electricity or locker rooms. To this facility CU invited Stanford,Cal,USC and UCLA to compete. It must have come as shock as Stanford has a 4,000 seat stadium, showers, meeting rooms for the other teams and locker rooms. The women have the right to expect at least the minimum. No flat screen TV's, a practice bubble or $300K to redo a coach's office. Just maybe some shelter for when it rains or when the wind blows up the dust or take a shower. Some time when you have a minute drive out Mesa Drive and look for the sign George put up a sign stating South Campus CU Tennis. You can tell you have arrived when you see wandering through goats used to keep the grass down, avoid the pot holes, make sure you bring a coat because the wind blows hard down from the mountains, make sure you don't have the urge because there is no place to relieve that urge and don't expect to go inside if it rains because there is no place to go inside. CU pride? If it was your daughter would you want her to spend her college career at this facility?
