FinerMinds : Strength For Life By Shawn Phillips - Day 32 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

Blueprint for brilliance -- this really defines where I want to get to from the path that the PN is on. i feel like over the last few months I've started on a path of focus and self discovery. I had a bit of an epiphany yesterday that as a child I developed stress coping mechanisms of avoidance and disengagement. Today that shows up as a difficulty in defining/ declaring with sincerity and passion what it is I want . More reflection needed here on the "so what" and "now what" I'm with Bernard....I don't understand the limited comment space....although perhaps I should take it as feedback to be a bit more pithy.

FinerMinds : Strength For Life By Shawn Phillips - Day 32 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

Transformation vs. change -- that is a new vision on which to focus across the full spectrum that the PN is opening. As a frequent "dabbler" this speaks to me as where focus needs to be -- and I like the idea of creating the structures in your life to create true transformation. Seperately I'm going back through Mark Joyner's Simpleology courses -- something he talks about is strengthening and weakening decisions, and taking action to make the first easier and the 2nd harder. I like the gap as it speaks to realizing potentiality -- not just in the physical but in lift more holistically.. Focus -- yes I'd like some of this. PN Tribe -- any tips on how to get focus? I'm not sure I want to call it ADD (way over used IMO) but I do have the attention span of a 2 year old. Seriously about the time they turned 3 I realized my kids could stay focused longer than I could...

FinerMinds : Mastery By George Leonard — Day 31 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

The Shaw quote "This is the one true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a might one..." spoke to me as I continue to feel that I'm not giving back to the world all that I'm capable of . "Mastery is practice. Mastery is staying on the path." Reminds me of Yoda ("is no try, only do") and Mark Joyner's Simpleology ("keep hitting it until you hit it") Habits / rituals / practices..common theme in the notes. I like the new twist here that the practice is for the sake of the practice Homeostatis -- this is big. Both the opportunity to adjust set points (happiness / financial) per other notes, and for me the recognition that I'm a dabbler often.

FinerMinds : Loving What Is By Byron Katie — Day 30 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

I like the idea of only losing 100% of the time when you argue with reality. Really comes back to a recurring theme across the notes of living in the moment. The 3 kinds of business aligns to Covey's circles of control / influence / concern -- I love that model. I've found it to very useful both in keeping myself straight, and even more so as a coaching framework. Compassionate alarm clock -- waking to new reality (and new possiblities?) -- neat idea. On the idea of "lies we believe" is that often we're writing stories that aren't based on fact. Goes back to the idea of worrying about what others think of you -- when in reality they aren't really thinking of you.... Getting rid of should -- powerful and effective -- I've been focused on that since the Tony Robbins note. Very freeing to let go of "should"

FinerMinds : Ken Wilber — Day 29 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

No one is smart enough to be 100% wrong...great reminder / phrasing on how to acknowledge that other people are living their own truths State vs. stage is powerful. I have the bad habit of jumping in with both feet to a new practice, getting all excited about the possibilities, and then discovering that the level of energy can't be maintained. I like the idea of building structures -- ties in to Tony Robins "rituals" and Marci Shimoff's take baby steps / employ kaizen approach.

FinerMinds : Focal Point by Brian Tracy - Day 28 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

Focus -- eliminate the what-ifs and if-onlys (and for me the "could-bes)....and get to working on what you really want. Somewhat not surprising given the book title but interesting the number of times clarity / focus come up. I'm reminded of a quote (I forget who said it) that "you can do anything you want, but you can't do everything you want." I also like the idea of optimism as the primary predictor of your future. I've been focused on a theme of 2010 is going to be a great year -- happy with how it is going so far.

FinerMinds : Everyday Enlightenment By Dan Millman - Day 27 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

Love the Somerset Maugham quote --- found it it to be true -- reflecting on what "the best" would be in my life and claiming it... Emphasis on action is important -- talent and intelligence aren't enough... Make positive habits easy / bad habits hard -- easy to say...hard to do.. But the answer lies in the will ("when motivation lags willpower takes over...") "The quality of your moments produces the quality of your life." and "carpe punctum" -- powerful, and an important reminder that years / months / weeks / days are too big to impact -- they aren't the NOW. Recognizing emotions you feel are hiding fear -- insightful Money as neutral energy we can use to circulate our values -- that is empowering

FinerMinds : Do You! By Russell Simmons - Day 26 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

Key reminders "You have gifts to give to the world. GIve them. " It reminds me that I need to strive to be my highest and best self, and give back from the enormous gifts I've gotten. One thing how to share PN?____Focusing on the path not the prize. Too easy to focus on the desired ends and overlook the work needed to get there. Also ties into the idea of "taking steps, even baby steps, always leads to success." As a formula:__ - Objective (decide on one -- and stretch your imagination -- daily quotes from Abraham (via Jerry and Esther Hicks) "It is as easy to create a castle as a button. It's just a matter of whether you're focused on a castle or a button.:__ - Develop your plan / lay out your path (how will you get there)__ - Focus on the path (David Allen in Getting Things Done, talks about "what's the next action?"__ - Execute__ - Repeat 3 and 4 ....____Inspiration from Brian -- "Let's wake up every morning striving to find more and more powerful ways to give ourselves to the world, shall we?"

FinerMinds : Conscious Living By Gay Hendricks - Day 25 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

"both/and" instead of "either/or" -- that's a powerful way of tapping into the endless resources of the universe, and expanding possiblities. I like it. Be present -- life is in the now, but too easy to live in past / future (my tendency). "Life is fullest when we are most true to ourselves" -- have definitely experienced this -- I need to live based on who I am not who I feel others (family / society / inner guilt / etc.) are shaping me to be The idea of magic -- make a big, bold declaration -- then take action to make it real!!!

Take a look at page 5 of the "Body Mind Mastery" note where Brian talks about the importance of consistency over intensity. For me, and I say this from a still growing exercise practice, that it is about getting out and doing something consistently. I find I get excited about the possibilities and want to jump in with both feet. Then reality comes along, results aren't as big as hoped for, get discouraged, ultimately quit. I'm working on focusing on action not outcomes. I forget who said it but I love the quote most people over-estimate what they can do in a day, and under-estimate what they can do in a year. Also do some reading on kaizen approaches to improvement. Take a look at "Happy for No Reason" last page And don't forget the Tony Robbins stop "shoulding" ourselves....

FinerMinds : Rich Dad, Poor Dad By Robert T. Kiyosaki - Day 23 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

Two questions are provocative -- not new but they continue to create discomfort: What would you do if you weren't afraid? / If you were guaranteed success what would you dare to dream and to do? I especially like the idea of "dare to dream" -- too often I think I restrict. Healthfully engaged in the circulation of abundance -- this is great stuff -- it creates a frame that bypasses various guilts / hangups about money. Focused not balanced -- powerful stuff -- need to throw your energy at a focal point Note to myself on reading this.... Commit (big impt word) + Play to win = potential for success -- miss either part and failure is pre-ordained

FinerMinds : Big Mind-Big Heart By Genpo Roshi - Day 22 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

The idea of not being limited to your perspective as truth resonated with me. Growing up we attended a church where there was a certain smug assurance that if you don't worship in our way you're doomed. I rejected that as it suggested an unreasonable God which didn't match my view, and which I refused to accept. Later in college I took a number of religion classes. What struck me was that while the specific words differed the broad themes were quite consistent across faiths. Similiar to the elephant story Genpo relates I formed an analogy of a house. The reality remains constant but how you describe it would differ depending on which room you are in, if you are outside or inside, if outside on which face and at what distance, etc. The reality is constant but the experience -- which is true and accurate for the participants - remains the same. The other big "ah-ha" was correcting the translation of "dukkha". Buddha's teachings make so much more sense now. Life is sufferering feels a bit dark and defeatest. But to say it is as a stuck wheel, dysfunctional and not moving that sets up a different and more empowering paradigm. Now on with gettting unstuck and back to flowing freely! PN are a HUGE help -- tons of traction from this.

FinerMinds : Trust Your Vibes by Sonia Choquette - Day 21 Of The PhilosophersNotes Challenge

Favorite quote was this 'I've never known anyone to find answers from thinking things to death, but I have known people who gained peaceful insights and grand solutions while strolling through the park". This is poweful simple wisdom but too easy to forget -- taking a walk is a powerful cure for whatever challenges or issues you may be facing in the moment. However, in our "go-go-go" culture it is difficult to say "I'm going to take a time out". My other observation is something I was taught many years ago in a often high-pressure, crisis heavy job. Crisis plus panic and manic doesn't yield a better answer. While being calm won't directly solve a problem it creates better odds.....

If you haven't, I recommend "The Science of Being Great" by Wallace.D.Wattles. Or if you've read it, re-read it. First he talks about connection to God (essentially we are all one) in a powerful way -- reminds me of the "Big Mind - Big Heart. The other was this quote "You are not mentally developed by what you read, but buy what you think about what you read." It sounds like you're on a great journey, and making good progress. Best to you.

Right on -- the repetition is key. Patterns start to emerge, you can appreciate info you may have seen before (such as if you've read the book) in a new way.____Someone had posted this link to a Tony Robbins video -- I found it great -- lots of ideas including the idea of what are the standards you hold yourself to, and what are the rituals that support it -- tonyrobbinstraining.com/468/new-year-new-life-21____

You're right -- I'm about 1/2 way through and loving it. Tons of notes. It is helping bring together the idea of set points (happiness / financial) from other materials.
