GazetteOnline.com : Apartment fire death could help fuel changes in city housing code

I don't believe any amount of money landlords are required to pay will make any difference. My son lives in Marion and purchased a house that was a repo. The house was assessed well over his purchase price and in doing some checking I found out the house hadn't been re-assessed since 1980. Yes, that's right 1980. The house had changed hands at least 6 times before he bought it and not once was it assessed let alone checked for safety by the county or the city of Marion. As I said before, I think the city and county will do no more for the extra money or will they hold the land owners accountable. How long did Bob Miell get away with it?

I agree but a lot of the young and even middle aged people don't pay taxes or are so wrapped up in themselves they could care less until they have to find a parking place near the old Admin bldg.

GazetteOnline.com : Cedar Rapids police add $500 motor vehicle seizure fee

What we are creating is a whole new group of "poor" people. First the State raises the fines because they "need" the money but they don't look at the fact that despite their actions to "get" fines paid the money is slow coming. Now the City wants a CIVIL fine to get your car back. The people that enact these ordinances and codes obviously have never been in the position they are putting others in. In otherwords, they've never worked a real job in their lives and think money grows on trees. It all looks good on paper!
