Conservatives are beginning to remind me of the way a leader in the Church is treated when he stumbles and sins. The Church shoots its wounded! Conservatives are shooting their wounded also. They try to rip somebody apart to find a tiny little splinter, and never notice they have a splinter the size of a 4 by 4 in their lives. Good is rare, ugly is common, but the commonest of all is the bad. Let's focus on "The Bad". The fact that a billion? dollars will be added to the deficit as a result of adding 13 months to the unemployment benefits is bad enough but think on this. Unemployment insurance is first paid by employers to the state to set up a fund out of which unemployment benefits are paid. I think most states have reached their limits if limits are defined by paying out to the unemployed the total amount collected by the premium payments. Only solutions are to increase the premium payments or expect the government to loan to the states an amount that matches the payments. What a mess! I think the states will just do with this mandate (and that is what this provision of the compromise really entails) as they do with anything for which they cannot legitimately pay. They will add it to the individual states deficit. Who will be expected to bail the states out of bankruptcy? The federal government who is funded by us, the taxpayer. And thus it continues. I am sorry about the chronically unemployed. BTDT. Survived. There is no way, without taxpayer and /or just plain recievers of benefits paid by taxpayers, to fix our economy without suffering. Probably lots of suffering. Suffering sooner rather than later is always better in the long run. We should have started suffering way back in the 70's or earlier but we kicked the can on down the road, so to speak. If our economy as Americans is not fixed now, we may not get another chance. Make no mistake, this compromise is a win for POTUS and the Dems. If he can illustrate that he can continue to herd the spooked elected Repubs even in the aftermath of the smack down in November, then he can continue without the super-majority beginning in January. GOD help us if he gets away with this smoke and mirror show. Contact your lawmakers and deny this win for Barry.
