Commentary Magazine : The Stunning Public Shift on Same-Sex Marriage

Perhaps this will help: http://www.steynonline.com/5473/death-to-freedom 'In Canada, the law denies "the right to say his piece" to the likes of Bill Whatcott, a man who believes that homosexuals are sinners and in need of God's grace and forgiveness, but it has no objection to those who think homosexuals are evil and should be put to death. Mr. Philips need never fear the scrutiny of the "human rights" commission, or the cost of ten-year legal battles. 'No homosexual needs the state's protection from Bill Whatcott. But all of us need protection from nitwit jurists blithely sacrificing core Western liberties to ideological compliance. It's not about Left vs. Right, gay vs. straight, religious vs. secular; it's about free vs. unfree. And on that most profound question, Canada's supreme court is on the wrong side. Nuts to them.'

Commentary Magazine : Rush Limbaugh and Me

What part of "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms" do you not understand? It's the right of the people, not the militia, to keep and bear arms. No one reads "people" in the 1st, 4th, 9th and 10th amendments (nor its singular form "person" in the 5th), to mean only members of the militia. "People" in the 2nd means the exact same thing as in the other amendments, no more and no less. Moreover, none of the elements of the Bill of Rights constrain or circumscribe individual rights; they only constrain and circumscribe the power of the government relative to the people and the states.

"whatever the arguments at the time, they recognized that when push came to shove, the United States had their back. No longer." That lesson should have been learned years ago; one only had to ask the Hondurans and the Poles. And just about every other real traditional ally of the U.S.

Actually, this evocation of Camelot seems to be describing Monty Python and the Holy Grail... King Barry: I am your king. Woman: Well I didn't vote for you. King Barry: You don't vote for kings. Woman: Well how'd you become king then? [Angelic music plays... ] King Barry: The Fat Lady of CNN, her arm clad in the purest shimmering blubber, held aloft the false transcript of my post-Benghazi press conference from the bosom of her, um, heaving bosom, signifying by divine providence that I, Barry, was to carry a titanium driver on the links. THAT is why I am your king. Dennis: [interrupting] Listen, strange women waddlin' in debates distributin' dubious transcripts is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical journalistic ceremony.

What difference at this point does it make? I mean, it's quite common in other tinpot republics for El Presidente's consort to bestow baubles on the regime's adoring sycophants; why should it be any different in the United States of Obama? If it was good enough for Evita, Imelda and Elena (Ceaușescu), then by Jove, it shall be perfectly reasonable for Marie Antoin-, er, I mean, Her Michelleness. "Don't cry for me, you bitter, clinging peasants, the truth is I'm finally proud of you!"

It's another day of the week with a "y" in it, so it's time for another of Commentary's "strategic" rationales for GOP preemptive surrender from the team that helped Romney get his assets handed to him during the election. All the GOP needs to do is to show "patience and care", gently point out, without scaring the horses, more in sorrow than in anger, that those other chaps across the aisle haven't been quite as responsible as their kinder, gentler, safe-to-invite-to-your Georgetown-salons-can-you-seriously-imagine-that-Palin-woman-as VP-for-goodness-sakes! learned friends in the GOP, and presto! the Dems and MSM but I repeat myself will see the eminent good sense of that observation and not say any mean things about the Stupid Party, thus effortlessly paving the way for all people of goodwill who respect sound, sensible, middle of the road governance to rally 'round the GOP, just as they did in Nov-...er, just as they are sure to do in November 2014 and 2016, yes, that's it. Patience and care. Don't scare the horses. That's the ticket. Just you wait. And wait. And wait. Lather, rinse, repeat.
