I was getting the 1604 error when trying to restore with the custom firmware. So I went and just clicked Restore in iTunes (in order to restore the original firmware from Apple). After the restore I closed iTunes and disconnected my iPhone (2G). Then I launched PwnageTool and created the custom firmware image. Then I got into DFU mode following the steps in PwnageTool (the DFU button). After that I shift-clicked restore in iTunes and selected the custom firmware and it worked like a charm! Now I am syncing!!!

God I'm hating this... I created the custom firmware in Pwnage tool but when I try to restore my 2G iPhone using it in iTunes I get error 1604. Someone suggested I delete the files in ~/Library/iTunes/Device Support. Except there's no "Device Support" folder in that location! What should I do? I really cannot stand that emergency screen anymore!!!

Apple really only cares because of their contracts with the official carriers. Jailbreaking actually makes the iPhone more popular especially in countries where it's not officially available... Which essentially means more $$$ in Apple's pocket.

ultraSn0w is only required for the 3G. The first iPhone can be activated with QuickPwn which should be available here soon (hopefully).

If you upgrade now (like I did) you won't lose your unlock but you WILL lose your activation which means that you won't be able to access the iPhone's home screen and will be locked in "emergency calls only" mode. But since the phone remains unlocked you will be able to make calls (via the emergency mode keypad) and receive calls. Don't upgrade until the new QuickPwn is released if you want to keep using your iPhone.

1 new feature that I didn't know was there is the "Scrub a song" feature in the iPod which makes getting to a certain point in an audio file so much easier. Just grab the little marker as you always would. Keep your finger on the marker, but slide it down a little; this turns on half speed scrubbing mode, allowing for more finely tuned selections...

Don't cross your fingers just yet. Clearly the Dev Team are having more trouble than they initially thought with these "last 2 bugs" so it might not be released today... All we can do is hope...
