Crasstalk : Everyone Needs to Shut Up About the Westboro Baptist Church

They're not newsworthy. They're not really a "real" church either. It's just one crazy guy and his cult of an extended family who desperately, desperately seek attention in the worst possible ways. I doubt they even really believe in what they say, but they just want the attention. I suppose the media pounces on them because it gives us a common enemy. Liberals, Conservatives, Independents... everyone hates them. The only thing keeping them around is free speech and the fact that every single adult member of the family is an attorney. The way they finance themselves to to threaten small businesses with lawsuits for not being ADA compliant, agreeing to drop the charges through "settlements".

Crasstalk : Dealing with Hangovers

You don't even need Gatorade. Drinking as much water as you can muster before you go to bed will prevent hangovers like a charm. The trouble is remembering to drink your water when you're drunk. When you're so pissed you can't bother to brush your teeth, you're probably not gonna bother with water either.

Crasstalk : Dealing with Hangovers

In college, I would leave a nalgene bottle full of water on my roommate's pillow when we went out, to make sure she wouldn't get a hangover. I had the Mother of ALL Hangovers when I went to Burning Man. It was the first night, and I went a little crazy with all the free alcohol... I ran out of water in my camelpak but didn't want to refill at my camp... oh yeah, threw up on the playa (BAD rocktopus! BAD)... And it was in a fucking arid, dry as fuck desert... Long story short, when I woke up I felt like dying. My hangover was so vicious and horrible that it actually killed my desire to drink or get drunk, to this very day six months later. Seriously, that was the last time I got drunk.

Crasstalk : Ghost Stories Open Thread

A while back, I found a random car forum that had a HUGE mega post of pretty chilling ghost encounter stories. http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?1424744...! There's like thousands of posts there, but most of the stories from the first dozen pages are top notch. Also, this: www.yourghoststories.com There's some pretty scary ones. Protip: Don't fuck with Ouija boards.

Mmmm... Mel Gibson as Mad Max. I never got the Sexiest Man in the World thing, but then I saw Road Warrior. He looked so different, it didn't occur to me that it was Mel Gibson until 5 minutes in.

In case of apocalyptic emergency, don't forget the 4 G's: Gold, Guns, God, and Groceries. I didn't make that up. I got it off a conspiracy theorist site that sold bulk freeze-dried food.

I've always been inordinately proud of my Gawkers star. Now, I hear they're giving out stars for posting using proper spelling, just because so many people have left. If you hurry and post-swamp them, you'll probably get a star too. Gawker stars are like Zimbabwe currency.

Crasstalk : Afternoon Traffic Jam!

After the initial switchover, I actually didn't mind the physical redesign so much. It WAS more convenient to have a scrolling sidebar, instead of clicking back and forth from the main page. If they could have beta-tested the shit out of it and made sure it was fully functional before going live, then it wouldn't have been so bad. Instead they took our old toy away and gave us a broken one. And when the dust settled, all the commentators were gone. That's pretty much what killed it for me, since 90% of the time I was reading it for the hilarious, insightful comments anyway.

Crasstalk : Afternoon Traffic Jam!

I was actually turned on to the big handmade cages by a lady who was most certainly crazypants. I had called a "rescue" from Petfinder and we were in talks for us to drive over and possibly adopt. They said they had 65 (!!!) guinea pigs of all varieties. Then, they dropped off the face of the earth and took down their listings and otherwise stopped existing. This is in the span of a couple of days, btw. I asked another rescue, and they said that they heard it was a lady who was keeping at least 50 guinea pigs in their garage. Anyhow, it was pretty rewarding building their pen, and then watching them run around and play in it. We also have a park outside. When we took MiniGuineaPig for a run, it was pretty much the happiest day in her little life.

They're both little girls. We got the black and white one as a companion to the other one since they're social animals who bond for life. They remind me of very little girls too. Whatever one of them does, the other one will want to do too. The orange one is addicted to cuddles, and if you put her on the couch and only cuddle Patches, she will climb into the crook of your arm to get cuddled too. And if you continue to ignore her, she'll get jealous, push Patches out of the way, and usurp the cuddles for herself.

They are! I've only had them for a couple of weeks and I'm in love. I didn't know guinea pigs were so interactive. They are very affectionate and love to be cuddled. They make little noises when they're happy and sometimes jump for joy. Very expressive for such little animals. We have a huge cage for them that we made, which takes up half our dining room. They're also little poop factories. I'm continuously mind-boggled at how much poo they make.
