Rob Conery : Uncle Bill Never Reads Rob's Blog

\"I didn't say MVC didn't appeal to me or that I didn't like it\"

\"the perfect framework for writing throwaway code that doesn't need to withstand the rigors of the real world challenges of a production app\"

So you like throwaway frameworks? Do they teach this stuff in Republican School? I feel like Jon Stewart talking to Glenn Beck... :):):)

At least I can say I tried - and yes I did read your post - you skillfully parroted my points while ripping me apart...

You don't have to add a provider - just leave it empty. The provider is there if you want to save it to another db

:) thanks for the nice thoughts but nah - not getting frustrated :). Been doing this for a while and I'm used to it ... our generation has this entitlement thing and it's just what it is.

No worries - I know how it sounds when I \"push back\" when people ask me \"will SubSonic disappoint me like EF does?\" but it's more me having fun then being cranky.

All the same - thanks for the good words!

Short answer is I didn't want to support every data annotation and all I needed were 6 simple attributes. Very little code, easy to do :)

Conventions with enums don't work - I've tried :). Enums as properties are really easy - all your generated classes are partials and if you're using SimpleRepository then you have control over your model. Either way consider the scenario in Northwind - Products have a SupplierID - what if I wanted to use an enum?

public enum SupplierEnum{
 Costco=1,
 Sears=2
}

public class Products{

 //...
 public SupplierEnum Supplier{
  get{
      return (SupplierEnum)this.SupplierID;
     }

  set{
       SupplierID=(int)value;
     }
 }

}

Rob Conery : SubSonic: Working With Git

Yah there should be - I haven't dove too deep into the \"pull\" scenario yet but it seems like you should be able to pull directly from Github. For now you have to pull down/push, which yes seems a bit whacky. I wonder if you \"forked\" again what would happen?

Rob Conery : SubSonic: Working With Git

It goes the other way round :). Just pull from our source using:

git pull git://github.com/subsonic/SubSonic-3.0.git

It will merge our stuff with your local branch (hopefully) and then you can

git push origin master

to your own branch. I know it seems like some work - but at the core of it you're doing \"branch management\" and just exposing your stuff to your public site on GitHub which allows me to use their UI to pull the fork.

Hi Yannick - MySQL uses TinyInt, among other things, as a flag column which is indeed a Byte. The issue (for us) is that this represents, most of the time, a Boolean field with respect to MySQL.

That's what I set it to do. If you're seeing an Exception from this please let me know.
