HGTV Design Star : Dooce's Recap: Oh, Humility. Where Art Thou?

Mark Burnett has happened to Design Star. !!!!!!. The biggest mistake that HGTV has ever made. He has not idea about his audience, is trying to recreate American Idol. with Simon, this time Vern. and you can see how this program is turning out. Disastrous. !!!! Le't get back to the beginning. HGTV, this time you blew it. don't compound the mistake by not changing the producers and format.

HGTV Design Star : Judges' Recaps: Red Team

You are abosolutely correct. But this show has become the Survivor, American Idol series for HGTV. Mr. Burnett, has completely shown no knowledge of the audience for this show. The rudeness that Vern has displayed I can see the similarities of the show American Idol, survivor etc. HGTV you had a great ide for a show, this year you have blundered with Mark Burnett. Listen to your audience, don't be blinded by this man previous successes. The audiences are different, the expectations are different. Vulgarity and rudeness have no place in this show.

HGTV Design Star : Dooce's Recap: Bromstad! Where are you, Bromstad?

I want to congratulate David on his new show in Miami, I can see that he is growing into a great designer of upper and high end rooms. The colors are magnificent, and what I hope that everyone remembers, that Miami, especially South Beach all of those colors are what you see and want to have. I can see that he knows where to go to get whatever he needs, I am writting down the names of the different places that I could be interested in going. I am sure that if he was in the Mid West, his designs would be completely different. Something to keep in mind. Great job David!!!!!. I know that you can write your own ticket as a designer.

HGTV Design Star : David's Vlog: Terrible Tera

I will have to agree, that it is difficult to see the designer's abilities, in the episodes. At least on the first one, we were able to see their individual styles, whether we liked them or not. But now, again, we are seeing the team competition. and It doesn't do it for me. We are forgetting that all of them are by design individualists, and this is a competition. They are there to beat the rest of them, not to become chummy with them. A designer knows that when they design a room for a client, they are not going to have a Nina, a Tara or anyone else, raining on their parade. Therefore, they can execute the design based on what the client wants. Even if any of them win the show, They will not have to design with each other. They will have a crew, and execute their own designs. I feel that it is a mirage, trying to identify team spirit under these circumstances. Let them have projecs and their individual designs, and let the best designer win.

HGTV Design Star : David's Vlog: Welcome to HGTV

At this point in time I am withholding my judgement. For me Dan's design is a "safe " design, something that yourself, or Candance or Vern or Gen could have done. Dan is to me "samo, samo" I feel that what the judges saw was the difference, the style, yes very edgy, but very much outside the box. I will agree that including me, who happens to like "safe" designs, Antonio will be a different designer, I will have to agree that his designes bring out the gutural reaction that we are seeing. And that is good. That is why I say, I will withhold my judgement, until I see what Antonio has to offer. Hopefully, is different than all of you.

HGTV Design Star : Preview of Challenge 9: The Finale

5000 for the Pergola that they had in that patio, is such a ridiculous amount that I gives me the impression of Dan's obviously lack of experience as a designer. Anyone can tell you that Pergolas varie in size, and It depends a lot on what they have to offer. The one that they put in the yard was much too expensive. As a designer he should have known that.

HGTV Design Star : David's Vlog: Lay Off Dan's Giggling

I am sorry that you cannot see what many are seing. On DS and on HGTV there is only one designer that has as his signature paintings that he provides with his designs. I have not seen any other designer in any other show do that, and I am sure that most or them if not all of them know or could paint, and provide a painting in their designs. They don't do it, because "that signature" is already taken. Sorry, taking shirts off and providing paintings is David B signaturel and by the way. Dan giggles, Davif B laughs. believe me, that is a great difference.

I don't know how I have given the impression that I don't like David B. He is the only designer that has come out of Design Star. and in the few years that we have seen his show, He has grown to become a first class designer.

David, in a way it doesn't surprise me, that you think Dan is a good designer, But compared to you, I don't think so. Should he be the next design star. don't think so either. His gigling shouldn't be a factor for elimination. but his designs should. I am very sorry that Lonnie got to go home, Unfortunately they didn't want to have a final with Lonnie and Dan, She would have won hands down. and I really think that you know that. Sorry that you liked the doo das on the ceiling. frankly, I didn't. I saw nothing interesting in his room. but a 101 decorating room. Dan should stick to modeling, He may have a carrer in that venue. As a designer, close but no cigar. Of course, will not be surprised by the ending. Dan will win, over Antonio, I believe it has been pre determined. but , I won't watch. Don't think that he has too much to offer. And I can guarantee that he will go into the sunset eventually, like so many before him. Winning the competition will provide him with a lot of hoopla, but eventually it will level off. Sorry, David, this time you are wrong.

No, Antonio is not going to win, Unfortunately, we have been left with the worst designers of the lot. But between Antonio, and Dan. NO contest. "the pretty boy" will win. Doesn't that always happen in Hollywood?

I will have to agree that Lonnie's room looked the best. having said that the whatevers that Dan hung up in the ceiling reminde me of Kim Myles, and to me he looks like a clown. also, I really disliked the fact that he tried to copy David B with attaching a paintint, of course it wasn't a painting. Antonio's room was good, and he did follow what Kathy wanted which was a very uncluttered office and minimalist in the design, so he really couldn't put too many doo das without enraging Kathy. I have always knows that Antonio and Dan would be left after all the drama. Haven't you noticed the amount of threads in this blog? They sure have hit it out of the park. Their rating should go thru the roof next Sunday. I think Dan will win the competition, which will be another DS that I won't watch.

HGTV Design Star : Behind the Scenes: Episode 7

Dear Mr Bolosh. Obviously HGTV is not going to fire you for you "silly " comments. You seem to defend the undefendable, and not doing it well. If your job is to hear what viewers are saying, you are certainly not listening. Your answers are defensive and many times inconclusive. HGTV has more to loose, if this program is continue to be seen as the "looser" that it is becoming. If I was the "big suits" I would listen carefully what the mayorityof viewers are saying. Yes, we like the concept.of a designers competition. Yes, we need to see them in more individual challenges, and not into team challenges, Team challenges don't prove a thing. Yes, we need to see their personality, but not to create the drama and the editing that you seem to be so accomplish in doing. You have already changed the judges to provide us with excellent designers, kudos on that one. Now, you need to go back to perhaps the first season, and see what made it so successful.

So the pergola cost 5500.00 anyone else is good with that? so it's ok for a plastic pergola, I am sorry, but if Torie was let go because she was the team leader, Dan, should not have been left behind. He Showed extreme lack of knowledge by expending that kind of money on something that looks like a waste of time. He even defends the price by saying OH, we were responsible for having the price down by 5000. from the 10,000 originally quoted. How intelligent is that? Dan, keep on modeling. you are not design material.

Had stated that 10,000 for a Pergola was the most ridiculours spenditure that I have seen in my life, If Dan was responsible to approving that disaster, he is most certainly no designer, I would have never approved that kind of money for a pergola, and I am not in the business.

I am glad to see that someone else built a Pergola and did not expent the amount of money that poor Dan paid. We just finished puting a Pergola over our pation a 14x14 treated wood pergola. we had it permitted and inspected. because we live in Florida it had to be extra strong to withstand hurricanes. with labor, wood and hardware we were able to complete it in two days for a little over 1100.00 Obiously Dan does not know the price of wood.
