Hansen, who is a classicist, responded to this when the movie came out. You might want to read what he said and educate yourself. But frankly, the whole idea of a "liberal movie" or "conservative movie" is fairly absurd. Unless you're watching something that's beating you over the head with a sledge hammer, the plot should be what you focus on, instead of trying to read secret messages into it.
