Jeepcit, I've been to every one of Sen. Heath's meetings as his legislative aide for the past 3 1/2 years. I also know who you are, and while it's possible you were at a meeting without me seeing you, I will say with full certainty that you've never been excluded from participating at one of his town hall meetings. In most instances, about half the people attending his meetings take the opportunity to comment or ask questions, and various viewpoints do get expressed.

Charles Winn:
Sen. Heath has already been a part of several measures geared toward education accountability. He wasn't a sponsor of SB 10-191, regarding educator and principal effectiveness, but he did work on a number of amendments that made it into the final bill. For a report from the Governor's Council on Educator Effectiveness on 191 planning, visit http://www.cde.state.co.us/EducatorEffectiveness/.... It approaches 200 pages in length, but it's a pretty easy read. Also, Sen. Heath did sponsor this year's SB 11-052, regarding performance expectations for institutions of higher education. You can read the bill on the General Assembly site at <a href="http://www.leg.state.co.us," target="_blank">www.leg.state.co.us, or try this interview with Lt. Gov. Garcia at http://www.csindy.com/colorado/joe-versus-the-vol.... As to how the money from Initiative 25 would be spent, that would be in the hands of the entire legislature, which goes through a lengthy budget-setting process every year before sending the long bill to the Governor for approval. Thanks, Richard Valenty, legislative aide to Sen. Heath and an initiative proponent

For a brief snapshot of what the CU Medical School does, find Senate Joint Resolution 10-009 on the state Web site, <a href="http://www.leg.state.co.us." target="_blank">www.leg.state.co.us. Otherwise, here are a few highlights - at completion, Anschutz will provide $6 billion per year in economic impact for the state; it serves 500,000 patients per year at the campus and 500,000 more in outreach; it provides $260 million per year in donated health services to the poor; and CU executed 36 licenses and options for cancer-related patents last year. As far as spending time in the Legislature on this, education is an important part of the legislative process - especially in a state that covers more than 100,000 square miles - and the resolution itself will be adopted and done with before most people read this comment. Thanks, Richard, Sen. Heath's assistant

It isn't written in this piece, but both Ritter and O'Brien have decided to forfeit four days of pay. Read the Post story at http://www.denverpost.com/statehouse08/ci_1289542... to learn more.

Thanks VK, I just cast my vote for Jenny, and everyone else in Boulder should as well. For those who haven't met her, she's not just a world-class athlete (5th in this year's IAAF World Championships in the steeplechase, odds-on favorite for this year's NCAA cross country title). She's also devoted to community service, tremendously articulate and intelligent - a real class act who happens to be in her final weeks as a CU athlete.

Seriously, I hope you're joking, but the former mayor's name was Shaun McGrath, not Sean, and the former mayor wasn't 35 years old at that time. There might be a decline in modern journalism, but the writers of the stories you posted links to still surely would have identified McGrath as the former mayor if that was actually him.

There is some information about their identity on the Web site. Their location is listed as 1777 Broadway, which is the Boulder Municipal Building, although it doesn't mention which room or chamber.

Wow! The only thing that's clear is that you're not interested in admitting you were wrong in five straight posts, even after being proven wrong. Why should we trust your opinion when we can't trust your facts? I tried, and this is my last comment on this thread.

Nope, Ryan Morgan was wrong too. Journalists occasionally make mistakes, and that's why citizens occasionally have to do some research on their own. Here are the top 6 from 1995, directly from Boulder County records:
1) Spense Havlick, 12,179 votes
2) Bob Greenlee, 11,715
3) Lisa Morzel, 10,600
4) Gary Myre, 8,367
5) Steve Pomerance, 8,202
6) Ruth Blackmore, 8,183
But don't trust me, look it up on the county Web site, http://www.bouldercounty.org/clerk/elections.

The link worked fine for me, but try http://www.bouldercounty.org/clerk/elections if you want, or just Google Boulder County Elections. You're right that Ruth Blackmore (a person that I know and have great respect for, BTW) was the first runner-up. But your 6th sentence is completely wrong, again, since Appelbaum was re-elected in 1993, and the next sentence is half-wrong since Appelbaum wasn't in the 1995 race, which you'll find if you just check the official results. You're right that Mock had not run in the previous election, nor was he required to by any law in order to gain an appointment. Voters did change the law, which led to the costly special elections for one vacant council seat that we had in recent years, and voters changed the law again in '07, so we now get an empty council seat for part of the year when somebody can't or doesn't finish their term. You're welcome to your opinion about the rest, but please check the 1995 election results for the statistical facts and let us know what you find.
