Hey. Figure with the new year it may be time to update and rejailbreak my iPhone 4.

It's running the original software and firmware from when I got the phone last summer -- iOS 4.0 and with modem firmware version 1.59.00. It was jailbroken using jailbreakme.com.

I do have iOS 4.0 SHSS SHSH hashes/blob stored locally and at Cydia, but obviously none for 4.1 or newer.

What's the best path to getting somewhere near current? Have I made my life more difficult by not getting to 4.1 prior to the 4.2.x release?

I'm an AT&T subscriber so don't need an unloack but would prefer to keep the option.

Thanks.

Thanks, Brad. It's good to know I can use Pwnage tool on the Mac then, if the need arises, use iTunes on the PC to return my custom ipsw to the phone. That sounds like a good solution to not having to rely on a work (or friend's) machine.

Yeah, I know the deal with the baseband ... fwiw, at least in SoCal, iPhones sold in Apple Stores have the most recent firmware. I'm under contract and and for the time being mainly interested in Jailbreak. Don't like being stuck in the sandbox.

Hi All. I got an iPhone as a Xmas gift and wondering what my options are for jailbreak, etc. I have a PC and Ubuntu box at home, Mac at work.

The phone came with firmware version 2.2 (5G77) and baseband 2.28.00.

I am under contract with AT&T and have no plans to change at the moment, though would like to preserve the option of a soft unlock should that become available.

From reading the posts here and elsewhere it seems my choice are:

1). Jailbreak through QuickPwn on the PC. The downside is that I lose, or at least complicate, any future unlock process.

2). Use the work Mac and use the Pwnage Tool to do the Jailbreak. This would preserve the unlock option, if that becomes available.

A couple questions:

if I Jailbreak on the Mac can I copy the custom ipsw to my home PC and use some combination of QuickPwn and iTunes do restore the custom ipsw should the need arise. Or would I be tied to the Mac for all future pwn-related activities? I'd rather not be tied to a work machine for this stuff.

As the phone is brand new I am a bit concerned with warranty issues. Is perfromaing a Jailbreak alone grounds to void the warranty? Can i effectively restore the phone to a virgin state through Apple tool should a hardware problem arise and I need to return/exchange the phone.

Lastly, are there any Linux tools that I can use for pwn-related activities. From my reading it seems that iTunes is an integral part of managing of the pwn process.

Thanks in advance for the replies. And hats off to the dev team.
