Daily Camera.com: : Boulder Valley cutting funding for minority student leadership conferences - Boulder Daily Camera

$20,000 to support one marginalized group and leave out other marginalized groups is divisive and COMPLETELY unethical. Ron Cabrera made a huge mistake. I am in favor of supporting all marginalized youth. But, by and large, the parents of transgender youth have a higher education level and a deeper understanding of how to effectively work the system in their favor. This is not a bad thing. It's great! But it is up to the DISTRICT to make decisions that are equitable for ALL--even those who do not have a deep understanding of how to fight for rights of their children--our youth--within the parameters of the status quo.

Daily Camera.com: : Janet Fine: Teach students good sportsmanship at Platt Middle School - Boulder Daily Camera

As a former coach (lacrosse), I have to agree: this coaching style is out of line. It's not about winning or losing. When there's a HUGE gap in the score, the winning players lighten up. (Even in pro games players lighten up, take more risks, back off any full press options.) Taunting should NEVER be tolerated. I agree with the letter. It's about sportsmanship. The replies here seem to turn the world black and white: win OR lose. There's always a winner and a loser. That's okay. But the way the game is played AND the way it's coached DOES send a message, and there is a right and wrong message to send.

Daily Camera.com: : Loveland shop donates assault-style rifle to gun group - Boulder Daily Camera

A person can drive a pick up truck from one place to the other. The only thing a gun can do is shoot. It doesn't provide transportation. I know this seems obvious, but for some, the obvious needs to be stated clearly. A gun is used to shoot, and the primary objective of shooting is to kill. Sure, there's target practice, but what is it practice FOR? You're not tossing up clay pigeons and trying to hit them with an AR. You're not hunting deer. The target in target practice for this is a human silhouette. And again, you're not using the AR to get from place a to b, as you are 99.99999999+% of the time in a pick up truck. The psychology of owning an AR is far different from owning a truck--or a hunting rifle, for that matter.

I meant that 10 years ago, as the OP said, it was East of Sweden--the East of Sweden where Mary and Bob worked. His implication was that he wanted to know if this was the same business that was in that spot 10 years ago. Yes, it was the same business. And yes, it was the same Mary.

Daily Camera.com: : Puppy love: 70 dogs trucked to Boulder for adoption - Boulder Daily Camera

Agreed. On open space last summer a "friendly" dog killed one of my dogs. The "friendly" dog was an overly happy lab. I asked the owner to not let the dog charge, but she said, "Oh he's fine." I had a puppy, 4 months old. Lab jumped on my sweet pup, broke several bones. $8,000 later, my pup did not make it. If another person asks you to not let your dog approach, no matter how "friendly" you feel your dog is, it is your obligation to call your dog off. Owners who place the green tag on the dog are agreeing to this. Please, let's work together on this so we can all enjoy open space.

Daily Camera.com: : Abortion \'can be positive,\' writes Linda Weber, co-founder of Boulder clinic - Boulder Daily Camer

In a world of 7 billion people, and in a country with the hugest carbon footprint ever to walk the earth--a carbon footprint that is so greedy and privileged it makes it impossible for millions of children to live full and safe lives--EVERY child should be a planned and wanted child. Abortion is an absolutely important choice that needs to be available to all women, everywhere, if people are to survive and thrive as species. If you want to talk about how to define "life," let's ask if the word "life" applies to the children who are starving and / or living in extreme suffering AFTER they are born can be considered "living" a life. The self righteousness and greed of the anti-choice stance floors me. Greed, selfishness, short-sightedness, and utter privilege--that's what drives any anti-choice stance. There are 7 Billion people living on a planet that can home less than that. You do the math. ALL CHILDREN should be wanted. End of discussion.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder coroner among former Adams County coroner employees to receive sex-harassment settlement - B

Even in a sexual harassment case, women apparently make 71 cents to the dollar, as compared to men. Wait--the man getting 600,000 for his good deed (and it was a good deed--no argument there) is FAR more than 71 cents to the dollar. The hero is the man. The women who were targeted by another man get paid less. Hmmmm. I wonder what the roots of sexual harassment are? Could the foundation be inequity?

"But the city has struggled with how to set the official end time for a storm, given that the flakes often stop falling overnight or at different times throughout the city." Only in Boulder are people PRIVILEGED enough to have time to ponder when the last snow flake fell and then legislate around it so the city can now make money, literally, off of the weather.

I agree with Pistachio. Boulder Humane has a great vision. But like so many things in Boulder, they seem to want to be "the best," while excluding and even looking down on other, similar agencies. I spoke with a trainer recently who made the point that Boulder Humane was acting a little like a puppy mill. Moving that many dogs through is too much, and time might be better spent taking Boulder's excellent staff and policies and finding a way to REALLY help other shelters implement them. Some of HSBV's pups are so under socialized that Boulder Humane keeps the circle going--and this means income for them in terms of training and such. I'd like to hear from HSBV to know if they maybe ARE doing some outreach like this already. I'll remain optimistic and assume they are doing some trainings for the shelters they take dogs from.

If you're going to own a pet, you should know where it is all the time. Yes, this includes cats and dogs. Leaving your dog with people who you know are partying is irresponsible. She owes the vet bills on her own and the city should not kick in. I'm a dog lover to the core--and this is why I side with the police here. This guardian was not caring for her dog in a responsible manner, no matter how you slice it.
