Sounds like a loser, but he was probably just protesting the BC law which requires a 7 day mandatory impound for speeding 25 mph (40 km/h) over the limit. Thank god our nanny state hasn't come to this yet: •Exceeding the driving limit by more than 40 km/h— $368 fine plus the driver will receive three penalty points on his or her driving record. The only revenue the state has generated from speeding tickets I received in the last 10 years have come from the taxes that my traffic attorney has paid. Jeannie Mucklestone has beat every single ticket I have sent her. I'm pretty certain that a ticket written to me is a net deficit for the state once you factor in the court costs. If you get a ticket, you don't have to roll over and pay it, and then pay higher insurance costs. Send it to a traffic attorney and you have a good shot at the ticket being dismissed. Send it to Jeannie Mucklestne and you have an even better chance of it being dismissed,

I don't live in Bellevue either. My power turned off around 8 am yesterday. I didn't see the point in sitting at home in the dark, so I didn't get home till 10 pm at which point I promptly went to bed. Though I have a gas insert that seems to heat well, if the gas turned off, my 10 degree sleeping bag could have provided all the warmth I would ever need. Preparation, as in having a vehicle equipped to deal with slippery conditions, gas on hand to power a generator, food, cooking stove, etc. Skill, as in some skill in driving in the snow. Knowledge that there are numerous alternatives to suffering in the dark just a town away.

Sounds spot on to me. All it takes is a bit of preparation and a little skill and the snow will be a non issue. For me, when it snows in the Seattle area, my commute is quicker, skiing is better, and driving is more fun! Driving in Bellevue last night was kind of like the beginning of the movie Vanilla Sky, except for the part where I wasn't driving a Ferrari Daytona, the part where I wasn't in Manhattan, and the part where I wasn't Tom Cruise. Other than that, everything was identical because the roads were completely empty. It was wonderful!

Of course what remains to be seen is how often you will actually receive a bill in the mail if you don't have a good to go pass. Perhaps it only works 50% of the time... maybe even less. Further, if you don't have a front plate, or ride a motorcycle with only a rear plate, how often will it scan you then? I don't take 520 that much, but I will definitely be curious to see how often it actually charges tolls. Won't be getting one of these stupid passes to put on my windshield and motorcycle till I am sure that it is the lower cost option. At this point, no one really knows. As for the 10 times too much statement, that is only if you are delinquent on paying the bill that you receive in the mail.

Reducing the social security payment tax doesn't make any sense. According to the Congressional Budget Office analysis released today, the government has received $752 billion in social insurance programs for 2011 through August, yet $1,447 billion has been paid out through social security, medicare, medicaid, and unemployment benefits through the same period.
