Society is really good at sticking a band-aid on life's hardships and sugar coating the truth. You cannot sugar coat the actions of those careless mistakes that cost others their lives. I understand that MADD and the Fair Commissioner wanting to stay neutral. Hopefully the Harn's can volunteer next year without any problem in the upcoming 7th year of volunteering at the fair.

They have every right to be there just as I or any one else that has been a victim of drunk driving!!!! If you are offended or worried about scarring your child for life well you should be GRATEFUL that they are scared into not making the possible choice of drinking and driving or doing drugs and risking his or her own life as well as societies.

About 4 years ago I had to explain to my 3 year old why her dad would not be coming home and explaining death to her. Ever since that cold January I have been very honest and up front with her about the effects of drunk driving. That woman at the fair who was offended needs to have a serious reality check. Was she watching the Harn's for several hours or just passing by? I was at the fair on Tuesday as well and every time I seen them he was attentive to Rose. I am a victim of a drunk driver and I may not be disabled in any way shape or form I am scarred for life and the impact of why drunk driving is a serious matter will be carried through my 7 year old daughter who is growing up with out a father. I am thankful in an ironic way becuase I will never have to worry about having the typical discussion of what drugs and alcohol can do to a family or person. She knows first hand and that is the best deterrent is up front honesty. How honest can you get with having the Harn's volunteer for 6 years at the MADD booth?
