I'm so tired of hearing Smith referred to as "moderate". I heard it from the mouths of KATU's news crew again this morning. Gordon Smith was a lock step Bush republican until the election ramped up. He towed the party line until about a year ago, when his re-election started to get focused on. The whole reason that he is a target is because he isn't moderate. When he has moved against his party, it's been when it really didn't matter. This whole "moderate" image that he is trying to promote, and our news outlets are irresponsibly parroting, is a rewrite of history and our local media should be ashamed for participating in it.
