I think there are legal issues with film crew and actor unions that prevent that sort of thing.

So is this the same as the Disney/Pixar/etc 3D we've been seeing recently? What I mean is, is the "real" look because it's filmed in 3D without stupid "wow" effects? Or is it actually a new kind of 3D technology that isn't out yet? I just wonder because I just saw Up recently and they didn't do any "wow" things with the 3D. It was just like, "and this is 3 dimensional, if you're paying attention." Not like stuff coming out of the screen or anything.

Crap, now I totally need to see the whole movie again just to see if that's true. Damn you, Quinto! How dare you be so hot that I never bother to look at the right side of the screen in that scene. :P

Aww. It's okay, though, because I totally wore a Starfleet shirt to a Star Wars fan club meeting once. On purpose. I love both franchises. I have a new Star Trek phaser on my desk right next to a Gentle Giant sculpture of Leia. WE CAN LIVE TOGETHER IN HARMONY! ;) Seriously though, I like them both. The fans of each can be quite different sometimes, though. I think Star Wars' major lack of science appeals to a broader audience than Star Trek. Or it did before the new Trek movie, anyway. (I, for one, love the science stuff in Star Trek, so that's not an insult.) As I just said on another post here, I always felt Star Trek was science-fiction and Star Wars was a fantasy/mythology in space. There's room for both because both are awesome in their own ways. :)

/Film : Cool Stuff: May The Best Prequel Win T-Shirt

I like them both. I've always considered Star Trek to be sci-fi and Star Wars to be a fantasy/mythology in space. The new Trek is way more entertaining and better made than the prequels, but I don't know... I feel like once I memorize all the jokes in Star Trek it won't be as fun to re-watch as the lightsaber battle between young Obi-Wan and Darth Maul. And will I be seeing Star Trek at the theatre 10 times, like I did with episodes 1 and 2? No. For one, I'm not 16 or 19 years old anymore. For another, this Star Trek isn't that dense; I feel like I've caught basically everything there is to see in the 3 times I've seen it. Also, I'm still trying to figure out some of the plot points in the prequels (for better or for worse). The script, acting and directing sucks pretty bad, but there's a hell of a lot going on story-wise. (You might say *too* much.) However, the new Star Trek has a pretty simple and easy-to-follow plot, not to mention the strange logic that a black hole = a wormhole, because as I understand it, they're not the same thing. And apparently big Enterprise-sized ships are built on the earth's surface and not in space (wha?), and they're built in Iowa for some reason (huh?), and in hundreds of years we'll still be listening to Beastie Boys, even though it's the equivalent of classical or renaissance music (um?)... I love Star Trek and Star Wars, but they're not really the same. I say the apples and oranges comparison is a good one. If we're just comparing film quality overall, though, clearly Star Trek wins. Better acting, directing, cinematography, and effects (at least until they're outdated). But comparing the actual concepts of each fandom is like a Mac vs. PC debate. And I won't even mention which fandom would be Mac and which would be PC because I have no idea. ;)

/Film : Clive Barker's Twitter Feed Brings Hellraiser and Nightbreed News

Oh man, I love Nightbreed. I might have to get a director's cut. Didn't Clive Barker have cancer or some sort of illness? I remember seeing a documentary or something on him once, in the 90s, and his voice was not raspy like that, and he looked a lot different. He wasn't nearly so muscular. I was really surprised when I saw him a few years back looking the way he does now.

Can someone direct me to a link or tell me why people are so excited for this movie? Is it because of the mech stuff? I can't really tell if it's over-the-top sci-fi fantasy or something else. I know a lot of guys go crazy for mech stuff, and I get that... But is that the main draw or is it something else? Seriously, I want to know, I'm not picking a fight. I want to be excited for this with everyone else. :)

Haha, it was! They cut out almost all of the slow-moving romance scenes. It was sweet. Although I think they may have cut out that sequence on Kamino with Jango Fett, too. I can't remember now.
