KATU - Portland, OR : GPS steers another vehicle into Oregon snow | KATU.com - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weather

What part of "the snow's getting deeper, it's time to turn back" didn't they understand? I suppose if the GPS showed the shortest distance from point A to B was driving off a cliff, they would have done that too! Unbelievable!

KATU - Portland, OR : Car smashes into trooper\'s vehicle as he writes ticket | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | News

Duh! I'm all for safety, and I follow the rules. I've been driving forty years and haven't had so much as a traffic ticket or accident. What I'm saying, is that people today are too distracted by cells phones, combing their hair, shaving, and even brushing their teeth while behind the wheel. Those are the idiots I'm talking about!!

Fortunately no one was killed. I have to wonder though, was the trooper completely on the shoulder? I saw a trooper on Highway 26 the other day. He had a car stopped westbound (I was heading eastbound) and was writing a citation. What alarmed me, was that while the driver of the car was completely off the highway along the shoulder, the patrol car was stopped, blocking a portion of one of the lanes, which looked to me like an accident waiting to happen.

I think going green has gone too far. As a homeowner we conserve energy every day by choice--we have a septic tank and well; during the day three lamps are on, no lights left on overnight; When we leave the house, we leave one light on inside, and a porch light if it's after dark; we run the dishwasher once a week, and washer and dryer once a week--yet, the energy bills keep rising. Where's the return for those that do their part? Where's my government check? LOL:)

KATU - Portland, OR : Family of cyclist killed by cement truck is suing for $2 million | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Loc

I've seen situations where a cyclist is at a corner, and the big rig hangs back giving the cyclist the right-of-way. On the flip side, I've seen cyclists pull alongside big rigs as though they expect the trucker has seen them. Instead of imposing laws for cyclists to break, we should enforce the ones already in place; which I have yet to see. If a big rig is at an intersection, cyclists should be required to remain so many feet behind them, and definitely not ride up beside them. I was driving highway 26 the other day east of Sandy when a cyclist was riding in the lane of the highway! not along the shoulder because of gravel-snow, etc. I got over, but had there been a semi-truck and traffic, I'm afraid there would have been one more cyclist statistic.

KATU - Portland, OR : Girl nearly falls over cliff as video camera rolls | KATU.com - Portland, Oregon | Local

The mother is 100 percent responsible for the safety of her child--not the state park system. It was an accident, and thank goodness the little girl wasn't hurt. What gets me is that her mother is now saying how her little girl was traumatized and has nightmares. Kids fall down, cry, and then forget about it. I doubt very much that the 3-year old even realized she nearly tumbled over the cliff until her mother made an issue of it.

In the U.S. & Canada--3 million children are bitten by domestic dogs each year. Since 1979, domestic dogs have killed more than 300 people. Between 1988-2003, there have been 48 documented coyote attacks on humans (mainly in S. California). For the record, there has been only one human fatality from a coyote attack that involved an infant that dates back to 1981.
