On the flip side, I've seen cyclists pull alongside big rigs as though they expect the trucker has seen them. Instead of imposing laws for cyclists to break, we should enforce the ones already in place; which I have yet to see. If a big rig is at an intersection, cyclists should be required to remain so many feet behind them, and definitely not ride up beside them. I was driving highway 26 the other day east of Sandy when a cyclist was riding in the lane of the highway! not along the shoulder because of gravel-snow, etc. I got over, but had there been a semi-truck and traffic, I'm afraid there would have been one more cyclist statistic. It was an accident, and thank goodness the little girl wasn't hurt. What gets me is that her mother is now saying how her little girl was traumatized and has nightmares.
