Big Hollywood : 'Act of Valor' - The Anti-'Avatar'

Mr. Treese I guess I got deleted because of the d-word. Sorry about that. It doesn't offend me personally, and I thought I'd seen it used frequently enough at the Bigs and that it was fair game (in moderation, at least). However, I admit to not having read any guidelines. I look forward to showing greater respect to you and the rest of the Bigs community in the future; and thank you for allowing me to voice my thoughts here.

Big Government : In Memoriam: Andrew Breitbart (1969-2012)

"Thank you", Andrew Breitbart, for leading and inspiring; and "thank you" to the team that will continue his effort. Not that I could have seen this coming, but I sure wouldn't have thought it would feel like this. I guess that means it was a good thing.

Big Journalism : The Media-Created Camelot

It's amazing what people are willing to tolerate when its THEIR politician. How, exactly, do you brush these things to the side around the same kids you're trying to raise and be kind, trustworthy, and respectful adults? Is it any wonder that the youth don't respect adults (generally speaking)? When you couple up these double standards with the scant quality time that parents spend with their kids, you begin to realize that we're courting national and societal callapse. Libs do this stuff more (it seems; maybe I'm biased), but the problem is substantial in every group. Anybody reading this should be able to think of a few examples where they saw fellow conservatives (or themselves) brushing poor and irresponsible political behavior under the rug. Its not inconsequential.

Big Government : Supreme Court to Consider AZ’s Illegal Immigration Law

I understand why Arizonans want to feel safe and everything, but you can't just deny folks their rights cause they're colored different than you are. If you don't like brown people, then why would you live in a state that borders Mexico? And if we let Arizonans do this to Mexicans, what will they do to African Americans next? Most of them are even browner than Mexicans.

Big Journalism : Dead Movement Walking: Top Ten New Media Moments That Brought Down #OccupyWallStreet

As a conservative who is not entirely on board with the Bigs, I still find myself thinking that this is a well deserved victory lap that Nolte is taking with this article. I know, in the bottom of my heart, that I'm a nut and a prick. But for whatever its worth, thank you John and the rest of the team for bringing down this nuissance. I've never done so much for my country or community as you have here. I do have SOME hope for the mainstream media (misguided, maybe). I was noticing early in the movement that folks on CNN were looking on timidly at they were seeing. Its almost as if New Media literally took Old Media by the hair and shoved their nose in the poop. The disgust was all over their faces, but I can't be 100% sure of what that disgust was about. I just don't think that an Anderson Cooper, for example, really liked the footage he was seeing. Normally, they would have chosen not to see; but they couldn't. But I might be projecting wishful thinking. Seeing what I hoped to see.

Big Government : Cain Presser Open Thread: Should He Stay or Should He Go? Update: He's Out

So much of it is senseless to me, still. To be open or "transparent" to you, I went ahead and made a conscious decision NOT to consider the Cain campaign anymore about 3 or 4 weeks ago. At the VERY LEAST, what I was seeing was campaign disarray (did I spell "disarray" right? that doesn't look right) and an uncomfortable knowledge base on foreign policy. Combined with red flags going off in my mind, I had to let him go--though hoping the best for him, personally. I have no doubt that he is, or at least can be, a great American and an inspiration. BUT, I do overlook details at times, and you're making a good point. Thank you for replying and helping me think.

Wasn't this over 3 or 4 weeks ago? Raise your hand if you kinda knew the Cain campaign was nonsense--but you kept trying to make it work in your head because you liked the IDEA of Herman Cain? You guys should have been listening more to your women on this one. Women might not reason straight, but they're pretty damn intuitive. Such as, when one's looking at you like you're bad news or the plague; she's right, aint she? Just playing. I don't know how they think, either. I just noticed that their bull-s**t detectors were flying off the charts as the Cain affair stuff was happening. It must have felt nice to them to be able to move on past this guy.

Hey Feral. Just a couple of comments. Your whole comment made sense, but I think your best point came in the 3rd paragraph. Amen! Way too linear. As far as questionable women with questionable pasts and connections, I don't have a rebuttle, either. Actually, just something to consider: If Cain really was involved with the ladies as is reported, then these are probably the types of women he's involved with. Most stable people, men or women, trying to build a meaningful life tend to take the risk of an affair a lot less frequently than others. Its not just doing it secretly and not getting caught; you kind of have to be used to living a patchwork lifestyle. The good ones are exactly the ones who can't pull this off.

Big Government : Herman Cain Is 'Reassessing' His Campaign

The problem with Herman Cain is that Americans are generally conservative and I think there are still a lot of lingering doubts about the man's sexual preferences. I think Cain needs to pimp his campaign up a little bit--hire a couple of escort girls, or an entourage. He could strut around with a cane, sing Barry White or Marvin Gay, and (as a calculated move) smack a female reporter on the butt once in a while. Better yet, a little grinding action in a corridor would help, especially if he's singing "Lets Get it On." Hmm? A new campaign slogan, perhaps?

Big Government : They Are the One Percent... and We Should Be Worried

I think the author gets us closer to the real problem by citing education as the problem. He might be dead on, I'm not sure. Personally, I'm more concerned about the weakening of families. You see so much acting out in classrooms that results from problems in the homes that I'm not sure any curriculum will save the day. Of course, its the college experience that is most directly spawning these infestations. But that wouldn't be possible if our students weren't susceptible to these sort of ideas/problem solving solutions.

"kids are starving . . . eat your dinner" I don't think that's the tone exactly. Its not a scolding for anybody; not even "Che" in the photo. Its about keeping in mind that a lot has gone well in America and that we have something valuable that we don't want ruined. LAME are the folks in that crowd that don't understand what they're even trying to do but they do it anyway because they get some rush out of it. This is Lollapalooza that we see, not a well intended effort for specific reforms.

I think what you're saying is that people associated with Penn St. simply haven't come to terms with the contrasts between what they "thought they knew" before and what they're having to accept now. Fair enough. And who would have predicted such a scenario, anyway? Would this even work as a movie plot? This is senseless, for sure.

One other thing- I'm noticing that a lot of folks are connecting this story to liberals. It makes sense. When this audience hears the word, "media" it instantly associates it with liberalism. However, notice that Fox is on the list, also. In the end, its not a media problem--its an American problem.

When you hear the words, "Penn St. Sex Scandal" you instantly know what is being talked about, right? Its a label, and it gets people on the same page in a conversation. I'm not a football fan, I'm appalled by what appears to have going on, but I am not at all disheartened over this naming issue. A much better question would have been, "Why are people showing more concern for the football program than for the alleged victims?" Part of the answer would be that Penn St. football and Coach Paterno have been showing up in homes on Saturday for decades now--Penn St. has a "face', but to most people, the children don't. And its natural to speculate on what all of this means to that program. However, it is embarrassing to see fellow Americans angry and protesting over Paterno's firing and the other consequences levied on the program. These people have no idea (or no regard) of how much pain they are causing the parents of those kids.

Big Government : With A Mistake Like That, Is He Qualified To Be President?

He's probably done for, but not so much because its impossible to come back from but because he looks like he's about mentally done for . It wasn't the gaff, itself--it was his attitude afterwards; the way he shrugged it off. He can't muster up anymore fight and he's likely on the verge of neurosis. A better question would be, "What is he waiting for before dropping out?" because I'm pretty sure he knows its over. At some point, he's got to decide its not the best for him or for his family to keep pushing this.
