"In the past, when we'd see an explosion or a fire in a motel room, we thought meth lab. We haven't seen the number of meth labs recently that we had historically, but we are seeing a lot of drug activity in the Roseburg area now," said Dunbar. ie.....the 'war on drugs' is a complete and total failure.

Wow. Now here is a priority. Well the state may stop the funding if these schools don't comply, that is IF they are still around in 5 years. What has this 'funding' garnered these schools? Seems to me, the school year gets shorter and shorter and schools are in danger of closing PERIOD! This state has lost me I'm afraid.

It's called FEDERAL money 'earmarked' for a project. Increasing fares by .50 will do little to pay for BRT. LTD increases one fare instrument about every 3 years. But go ahead, don't let facts get in the way of your argument.

Listen, we can do this 'back and forth' all day. YES, there is a school on Oak that allows the 'selling within a 1000 ft of a school' to apply. Again just a little research and you would be amazed. Again with regard to the downtown exclusion zone, there are many reasons that imo it's warranted. You may not agree and that is fine. I’m not calling you a liar or anything of the sort, but I find it hard to believe that your 3 yo would be harassed for merely stopping to tie his/her shoes. Ok....I'm done. Peace.

Parks and schools ARE downtown. Where have you been? Now if you’re asking why the downtown exclusion law isn't applied elsewhere I guess my answer would be that it wouldn't be a 'DOWNTOWN' exclusion. The whole point is to apply the law where the offenders ARE.......thus downtown. :)

lol As someone who has worked DOWNTOWN for the better part of two decades let me shed some light on a few things. This 'harassment' of 'teens' and 'bums' as you so eloquently put it, is a testament to how little you and the like ACTUALLY KNOW in terms of the goings on downtown. What if I told you that the exclusion law, is to limit if not eradicate predators downtown? Sure, there are transients that reside downtown as well and although on the surface it may seem they are the primary targets, the truth is there are some SERIOUS offenders downtown. These offenders prey on at risk youth and females in particular. As far as transients are concerned, I guess you might have a different outlook if you owned a business downtown and tried to make ends meet. It's easy to be 'on the hill' and form opinions on how downtown should be. It's another thing completely to have EXPERINCED it firsthand.

Your comments about the Eugene Police are factually wrong. They're so strapped financially and restricted by the local government as it is, you'd be lucky to have an officer respond in a timely manner if you should ever need one. They are left with little latitude to effectively do their jobs. Don't get me wrong, there is corruption in government in the local, state, and federal level. The Eugene Police is the least of your problems. My issue with local law enforcement is that they have too few resources to enforce the laws that ALREADY exist..

Oh, yes it would. He could put some in my account and yours too! Wouldn't that be great? Or better yet, the local and state government(s) could manage the monies a little better and not have to rely on one man and his bank account. Seems to me he's done plenty and it's no one persons business how he allocates his money. People sound so bitter and jealous. Put the blame where it belongs.....on your beloved representatives.

"Does Anyone actually believe that there is absolutely no connection between adding EmX and the 'need' to increase fares for LTD? ( I mean besides those who have a personal relationship with the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and Spiderman and Wonderwoman.) " LTD has raised one fare instrument about every 3 years or so. This has been going on before EmX and will continue. Believe it or not all the worlds’ woes are EmX related. Research much? Thought so.

been in town for two decades and in my early 40's. long enough to see what a horrible economy and a city council hell bent on turning businesses away can do to a community. you talk of ltd and rising fares but truth is cost of everything goes up, not the other way. ltd raises their fares about every 3 years. this has nothing to do with the emx. still curious to see how you and the like can argue for more buses thus leaving a larger carbon footprint while at the same time complaining that ltd cares not for the environment. please explain this will you? also, if you truly researched both sides as you have claimed than you obviously know that ltd does studies of potential environmental impacts when putting into place ANY route, not just emx.

spokandi73, you are correct, we are not pdx nor seattle, nor los angeles, new york city etc. what we are is a city of about 160,000 give or take with a metro area of close to 300,000. enough people to warrant a good PROGRESSIVE bus system. for the size of the community i challenge anyone to find a better bus transit system. talk to those that have been ELSEWHERE and they will tell you. we have the best bus system for a community this size of just about anywhere. home-grown folks are a tad spoiled i must admit. go anywhere else and see if you can ask the driver a question without getting yelled at. ltd was 'complying' with a.d.a. law BEFORE there was a federal mandate to do so. point being, just stop long enough to think for yourselves and don't be so quick to jump on the 'ltd is evil' bandwagon. as for empty buses, perception. my bus no matter the hour is FULL to capacity. i thought adding more buses to the existing line like so many 'progressive' folks insist would be a great idea, is counter to the 'green' way of doing things here in eugene. so which is it?

Lies, lies, and more lies. First of all MOST people WANT the EmX out west. Yes, this is FACT. Those opposed are in the minority. Second, show ANY data, ANY DATA that suggests that the EmX would do anything but benefit businesses out west. I'll wait. Don't give me the song and dance about funding. This is federal monies earmarked for this project that would be utilized somewhere else if not here. Don't drink the cool aid. Come on now sheeple. I thought Eugene was all about progressiveness. I've seen ZERO proof of this so far.
