To say that Obama is not confrontational is to misunderstand Obama and to misunderstand the Left Wing political philosophy in general which is to cement confrontational agendas into law. The Pope's visit will certainly highlight some of those confrontations.

It's too Byzantine for my liking ....but thanks for the explanation. Glad I don't live in the city. It seems though that with the enactment of prop 300 it could go either way depending on who can best manipulate it. It'a a two-edged sword.

On the other hand it seems like the reverse argument applies better. Doesn't prop 300 actually make it easier to maintain the privileges of low density neighborhoods such as Stephen Sparn now enjoys by making it easier to stop high density development through citizen initiatives?

The Pope has it all wrong. Socialism is to blame for the immigrant "crisis" rather than the "God of Money." In fact, market capitalism is welcoming the immigrants with open arms because many of the immigrants come from the middle class in Syria and are stimulating the Greek economy with their their spending. The dirty little secret is that socialism and the free movement of people are mutually incompatible. Immigrants threaten the delicate social welfare fabric. That's why governments are closing off the borders.

What exactly IS the "will of the people"? Which people? Entrepreneurs generally consider themselves visionaries. It would be foolish for an entrepreneur to build a product to completion without engaging customers for vital feedback if for no other reason than to protect his investment. Should neighborhoods be dominated by busy-body political activists or by people making their own purchasing decisions?

I don't see any clear moral distinction between "migrants" and "refugees." There is nothing wrong with voting with your feet. Flight to quality is the driving force that leads to making good societies even grander and leaving corrupt and evil societies to become weaker and die on the vine. That's what the Berlin Wall tried to prevent. In Syria it's mostly the middle class who are fleeing. Their loss is another country's gain.

I think Porath's ideas have some merit. Institute a stiff carbon tax on fossil fuels to limit it's use only to those who can afford it. It's a good way to reduce traffic on the hiways and prevents overuse of fossil fuels by commoners. There simply isn't enough land and natural resources on this planet for everyone. Restore feudalism and we will get the planet back into balance. Sound extreme? This idea already has weight in the California education system: http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/eei/UnitDocs/Grade07...

Of course Trump is a blowhard but he is only incoherent to those who don't understand what he is really after, and to that he has always remained steadfast. Nor am I misreading Sanders' positions. Sanders wants to set up a welfare system in this country and immigration, unless sharply limited and controlled, would destabilize that plan. He even voted against guest worker programs by conveniently calling them "exploitation." ....So according to Sanders even a temporary opportunity to work in America is "exploitation." Europe btw has it's own serious problems with immigration. Class warfare, both subtle and overt, and immigrant rioting abound in Europe. Their comprehensive welfare systems continue to stratify their society and pigeonhole people. Europe, as a result, has much less social mobility than here in America.

Let's call a spade a spade. Europe leans more towards a Corporatist Welfare Model. Europe is riddled with Syndicates closely controlled by government that make cradle to grave decisions for the people. Not to say that such a model is all bad. It has advantages as well as disadvantages. Europe, after all, has a history of paternal feudalism, but it is a history that people came to America to escape. http://www.pitt.edu/~heinisch/concept.html

Don't let facts stand in the way of a good story but the fact is Trump fits the leftists Democrats more than he fits the Rebublicans. Trump said in the debates: Single payer "works well in Canada." http://www.vox.com/2015/8/6/9114601/donald-trump-... Bernie sanders also said without any ambivalence that opening the border would hurt employment and wages and his votes on bills is a clear reflection of that.

I thought Socialism means collectivization of the means of production and Bernie Sanders describes himself as a Socialist. Do you mean to say Bernie Sanders is really just another typical Democrat? If not, do you really mean Bernie wants to maintain technical private ownership of the means of production but having it under direct state control? That's called "state corporatism." So which is it?

Donald Trump flip-flops when it is convenient but always has the same objective viz a viz health care. He might like private healthcare for a few specific reasons given but having the government assume his healthcare costs would also be just fine with him too. Single payer would kill two birds with one stone because it would be a uniform system so he would avoid hassling with independent contractors at every locale and best of all.....the American taxpayer would assume the costs. Single payer would make it a double win for Donald. "While bantering with David Letterman on Jan. 8, 2015, Trump voiced admiration for Scotland’s publically funded health care system and suggested that the problem with the Affordable Care Act is its implementation". http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statement... Trump is an unscrupulous character but he isn't stupid. As for Bernie Sanders position on immigration he makes that very clear. He is for supporting undocumented workers already in the United States, which makes perfect sense to him in order to expand his welfare programs and build a welfare constituency. However, Sanders reiterated his position that opening the border would hurt employment and wages. http://thinkprogress.org/election/2015/07/30/3686...

Trump has more in common with Bernie Sanders than the other Republican candidates. Trump supports single payer and straddles the issue on gun control to lean more with the Democrats in supporting more restrictions. Even on immigration they have agreement. Bernie appears more "kind and gentle" on immigration but he wants to keep immigrants out just as much as Trump does because letting them in would undermine his welfare state and work against the interests of labor unions to keep wages higher.

Trump is a crony capitalist and for single payer. Both parties play the crony capitalist game but single payer tips the scale more on the Democrat side. He is only running as a Republican because there are more candidates running so all he has to do to make a big splash is go after the kinky vote but he will never will get the nomination. He even left the door open to run as an Independent. The positive side of all this is that he is tossing a grenade at the political party system which is long overdue.

The calculations in the article are correct but it is a mathematical model that assumes continuous exponential growth that goes on unabated to extreme theoretical levels. The mathematics are correct and I have no issue with it. However In real life things don't grow exponentially unabated. Reality intrudes according to a more open system where new factors and externalities intercede along the way. I have already provided examples of that so we are just going in circles.
