Our economy isn't helping either. Segregated schools are more likely to be in poorer communities causing many of the students to not have enough resources to do their work, not enough technology to expand their minds, or the right amount of money for proper books or utensils they need for school. Like the video Sam showed us in class when the "proper white kids" switched with the group of black kids and going to each other schools for the day, the black kids from the more poorer school said they were more focused and intrigued in school when going to the white kids' school. This shows that so many students are being neglected and they don't have the motivation to do what they have to do to lead a better life when going to a more segregated school.
This makes me sad because everyone talks about having a better and more peaceful world where everyone can get along and there would be no war, etc. But if schools are more segregated than they were in the 1970's, its like its going backwards, and makes me feel like things will never get better. I believe our generation we have today and future generations to come will be way less racial or prejudice against other races, but things will still be implemented towards them. It's been about 40 years since the '70s and the fact that we've taken a step BACKWARDS in that time by making our schools more segregated is so frustrating. It only shows that we aren't taking any steps forward to make racism not exist in our country or the world all together. A lot of people SAY they want things better or to understand different races and culture, but nothing is happening to make this work, no action is taken place to actually make things better.
For schools to be more segregated now than they were in the 1970's i believe this is a bad thing. The information speaker yesterday made a good point though. Many of the black students or hispanic students come from an area that are majority black or hispanic, and vice versa with white people. Than, when we get to college we expect everyone to get along, when we aren't doing anything in the beginning to make this work out in the end. Having more segregated schools I think is better because that means more couple are interacial couples, which I think we need in order for everyone "to get along."
Although segregated schools are more associated with poorer communities, and the majority of these neighborhoods aren't white, it shows that theyre much segregated compared to the 1970's, there still a huge gap, and this isn't allowing us to make things better between different races. We'll still have our stereotypes between everyone etc.
I know that we'll probably have many more attacks on this country, or more wars to come. It's nerve racking knowing that someone out there is brewing up another terrorist attack on our country, and why is the question. What have we done to you or your country to deserve that? Also, where will they hit next? Will I be at the wrong place at the wrong time? It's very scary knowing that these terrorists can attack anywhere, and kill so many innocent people that had no idea it was coming. This might sound cliche but someday I just hope for world peace and all of the negative leaders can be taken care of to help with the world peace.
I feel safe in this country I guess because of the laws and freedom we do have. Even though we may not all agree or like our government, they make a big part in what our country is today. To see that video with other world leaders making threats, not even to us, but to other countries in the world is scary because it makes you think what are they planning to do next? We've had multiple attacks on our country plus numerous threats we recieve all the time. In my mind, I'm thinking even though I feel safe here and our government will protect us, what are they actually doing to prevent attacks on us in the future?
It's scary to know that someone has the power to blowup a country, take control of their people to use them as self detinating bombs, not care if their country is being attacked on and they hide out to help themselves not get caught. When realizing how much of an impact Sadam Hussain or Osama Bin Laden has on the world is a scary thing. They're such big "leaders" in the world with strong enough powers to take out millions, which is a scary thing.
The video in the class that impacted me the most was the first video that Sam showed about the Jihad and the impact they have and have made on the world. I wans't aware of all the threats and terrorist attacks they've made in the past 20 some odd years, and it petrified me to see all the quotes that the leaders made to take over the world and have world domination.
Living in America makes me feel safe, considering this is all I know. The rights and freedom that we have I think we all deserve. When it comes to war, the only war I've witnessed is on the news in other countries. I believe that with the government we have, even though they make wrong decisions for the most part, use our money in horrible ways, and make us believe things that aren't true, I still think that our government would do their best to protect this country from being invaded and letting their people get harmed.
Another issue is that when Laurie and Sam brought up why girls dress up so much and are uncomfortable, I thought to myself, I never really do that. I have no problem wearing a cute top, with jeans and my uggs to go out in. When it comes to class, get real. You can catch me in sweats and a hoodie, with no makeup on Monday through Friday. I jsut don't have the energy to always look "up to part." Don't get me wrong, if I'm going out with my boyfriend, friends to a party, etc, I will look nice, do my hair, and put make up on, but other than that, why should it matter? Even better, why should it matter if you wear all that to a party? Let alone everyday. I know a lot of girls who can't even leave the house without make up on, WHY? Don't be ashamed, because sometimes, looking natural is way better than all that make up.
The lecture didn't make me feel uncomfortable at all. Like I said, it was a breathe of fresh air. I was basically already aware of what was happening with my body and how I was feeling about sex, or my partner, or anything in relation to the matter. It was surprising to hear everything about the male body, and the way they act because I've never thought about them in that way. For example, they dressed relaxed while we, as women, dress up to go out. Also, it is really all about the penis, what it wants, and what men want. Laurie was right also, why do we need alcohol to make us "in the mood?" Sometimes, I just want to cuddle. Whenever my boyfriend and I lay in bed to watch a movie or just relax, he always assumes it's going to end up in sex, and sometimes, I just don't feel like it.
I was really excited about the lecture yesterday and couldn't wait to hear what Sam and Laurie had to say. After hearing the lecture, I was really happy with the points they touched on. Everything they said was true also. For example, having sex doesn't always satisfy me, and more foreplay is needed. It's not always what the guy wants, right now, or right away... Sometimes men have to take a look at a woman's body to realize that many things are occuring at once, like Laurie said. It was really a breathe of fresh air, and excited that men finally got to hear the truth.
I know a lot of people who think it would be like butting your nose into other people's business, but if it comes down to a situation like that where someone isn't being served because of the way they dress, or because their skin color is different than the person serving them, I would absolutely stand up for them. It's just not right.
So many people don't say anything because they "don't want to get involved." If you don't want to get involved, then stop saying that we need to make changes in the world, because you're not helping. If you want changes, be the change you want to see in the world. :) Take a stance to stand up for people who can't stand up for themselves. We all have a voice, myself a very loud one, so we should use them!
